Interesting idea. And just when she and Colossus are reconnecting again. A fundamental change in Marvel usually means some sort of heartache or loss. With so many characters set to return next year, it may also imply that someone dies. I hope it's not Rachel, but Kitty has gotten back to basic since leaving Guardians of the Galaxy. I would prefer she continue that trend, but a major upheaval could either be good for her or a major setback. Only time will tell.

It does not make much sense for Rachel to die now but with Jean's return it's always a possibility or maybe she gets lost in the negative zone.

The biggest bets to leave the team are Storm and Old Logan but for now they are just hunch because of other factors that we do not know how they will develop like the return of Logan 616 and the new solo of Storm.

I also would not be surprised if Kitty and Colossus's relationship regressed and would not be surprised if Kitty left the lead for Jean when she return.

Speaking as a mom, that’s a legit fundamental change.

But drastic changes to a character are not a new thing, and certainly not something to panic about. Characters like Logan, Warren, Psylocke and Jubilee have all undergone some pretty radical changes over the years (especially the latter), and are still merrily strolling along (or will be soon enough in Logan’s case).

The change may not even be that “fundamental”, considering how talented Marvel’s Department of Exaggeration is.
