Default Your ideas for a Superman Elseworld...

Now that DC is doing Elseworlds again, what ideas would you like to see for a Superman one? Here are some of my ideas:

Superman Noir: This is a world much like the 1930s. Superman has a makeshift costume. He can only jump an eighth of a mile and is a reporter for the Daily Star. No reference to his alien origins. His parents only told him that they found him on their doorstep. He is incredibly strong but doesn't know why. Luthor is a mob boss and politician who has connections to the drug and gun trade in the city, which is never formally named. It's meant to be a "realistic" Superman. He is more of a super-man in the generic sense. The ending is Luthor is exposed by an investigation by Clark Kent.

Superman: Last Son: This is an idea I've had floating around in my head for a while. One of the Kryptonian science council believes Jor-El when he says the planet is about to blow up and acquires the plans to build his own ship. It's less a story about Superman but more of this member of the council living on Earth and encountering other DC characters. He falls in love with a human woman, joins the Gotham police department and teams up with John Jones, meets Abin Sur, and monitors Clark as he grows up.

Superman: No Return: In this world, Superman never came back to life after being killed by Doomsday. It's about Superboy trying to replace Superman and gain acceptance from the public. He meets Lois and the Kents and learns Superman's SI.

Superman: 10,000bc: In this world, Superman's ship crash lands in the pre-historic times and he is found by a small tribe. The ruler of the land is a L'Thor. He built the first city, invented the bow and arrow, and discovered fire. He also rules with an iron hand. He is conquering other tribes and stealing their resources. Kol, as he is named, has to stop him.

Unnamed pre-Crisis idea: This one isn't very well defined. It's basically a "what if the COIE never happened" type of story. Superman is older. Has a beard. Lois is dead. He still fights crime but has lost interest in it. Luthor is in prison dying. Batman is dead from a fight with the Joker years ago. Supergirl left Earth years ago to live with her parents in Kandor. It would sort of be my version of the "last" Superman story. It would mostly be about him coping with the fact that he will outlive most of his loved ones.

Superman: Prizefighter - Clark Kent develops his powers during an amateur boxing match and kills his opponent. Because no one understands what's happened, he's sent to prison, where his powers are truly discovered during a prison riot. Powerful people pull strings to get him released and market him as a wondrous law enforcer: Superman! But after what happened in the ring, Clark absolutely refuses the ways of violence even in the face of escalating threats.

May sound funny with how vocally irritated with Batman I've been the past few years but.... Superman and Robin. Kal-El and Damian Wayne are the only survivors of a mass superhero genocide led by the Legion of Doom and are now tasked to protect the world, and deal with their grief, together.
"They can be a great people Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you. My only son." - Jor-El

Superman: Samurai of Krypton. What if events on Krypton as we know began when Japan was feudal and Kal-El's pod landed near the village where a noble outcast samurai and his wife were trying to live normal and peacefully? And what if Kal-El was raised by such family, by a samurai? The rest is up to your imagination.

Also similar idea, but with China and Shaolin monks.

    Superman: Private Eye

I'd make a story where Superman elected not to be a public superhero, but elected to do private investigations while hiding his super powers. I got the idea one day after watching a bunch of episodes of the comedy Psych, and I think various elements of that show, including the childhood flashbacks, actually works as a good template on how Superman secretly uses his powers on a day-to-day basis. Lois & Clark did this to an extent, too, but I would put extra emphasis on how Superman solves mysteries.

Batman & Superboy: An adult Bruce Wayne either just starting as Batman or prior to returning to Gotham encounters a teen Clark. Now instead of taking in Dick Grayson after a circus tragedy, in this world Bruce takes in Clark to train. Jonathan and Martha Kent become assistants to Alfred (no death so Clark won't share the orphan role with Bruce).

The Life of Superman: The rocket is found by John and Mary Kent around the time of World War 1. Superman debuts in Metropolis in the early 1930's starting a trend (Batman/JSA/...). we follow his development from local legend leaping buildings to national hero in the Second World War. His romance and eventual marriage to fellow reporter Lois Lane. The rise of a new generation of heroes led by his cousin Kara (whose ideals are more Kryptonian) and his own child(ren). The eventual discovery that his powers don't make him immortal. Basically an Elseworlds series written as if the Superman of Action #1 had been treated as a single character from 1938-now with homages to classic stories from our comics but altered to fit in one continuity.

The Scientist of Steel: Young Clark Kent upon discovering his powers is more fascinated by the world revealed by his senses than what his muscles can do. Instead of changing the course of mighty rivers, he examines those rivers and applies chemicals at superspeed to purify their waters. Instead of a slugfest with a giant Luthorbot, he traces the circuitry and applies a microburst of heat vision to fry a critical circuit.

Supewoman: In his plan to hurt Superman, Luthor tries to experiment on the serum which can make someone a Superman for a day. He gets one idea to hurt him. Experimenting on Lois Lane he wishes to transform her into a Bizzaro Superwoman who would die in hours. But it backfires as he accidentally perfects the formula and Lois is transformed into an all new Superwoman. Together they are the super team of the future.

Thor: Lois finds an artifact in an old cave. It turns out to be the hammer of Thor. Now whenever she wishes she can change into Thor The Goddess of Thunder. She keeps her identity a secret from everyone. And finally reveals that to Superman on the day Superman reveals his. They live happily ever, after as together they save the world and the universe for all time to come.

Superman Secundus: Its basically the same as the main DCU. Difference is everyone ages in real time. Jon takes up the mantle of Superman as Superman dies. The world undergoes a change as the next generation take up their places. A brighter future stays with LOSH existing as the heroes carry on their respective legacies thousands of years into the future. It all starts with Jon the most important point of change. It is a change of guard as while the first age of heroes is ending the next generation are taking their rightful places. World needs a Superman. Even on Superman's death his son becomes the next.

Real world?: This world is the same world where we are existing. Superheroes are the stuff of comics and films. They are simply stories written as a form of entertainment. In the year 2018 a certain group of nerds find something unusual. Subtle signs like a guy actually looks like Bruce Wayne drawn by Dennis O' Neal. Or, a girl finds out that a certain newspaper which started in 1938 actually was to be named as the Daily Planet but the plan was changed. Memoirs of a certain actor is found where the actor recounts his dreams where he is Batman. It appears like dreams yet the stories match to certain stories which he might not have possibly read. This group is finally confronted by a secret society concerned with preserving a deep secret "Everything that happened in those stories either in comics or in other media has happened in some way or the other." Before a certain being beyond time and space rewrote the entire history so that the heroes simply turned to ordinary people and these histories ceased to exist. Some people remember these things to have happened so have written stories rather unconsciously without knowing that they were a part of it.

These nerds who were actually the Justice League before history was re-written led by the actual Superman then try to find out the reason why history was changed and if they can bring it back.

    YEAR ONE MILLION

Miniseries featuring the golden Superman Prime 1 Million. Story takes place more than one hundred and fifty thousand years after the events of DC 1 Million (which was circa AD/CE 853,000). Basically just want to see some usable feats of might from the guy as well as how immortality has affected our boy Kal-El and what happened to the rest of humanity.

    CHAMPION OF EARTH

More of a maxi-series where a lot of my pet revamps for Supes could come together in one story. Kryptonians don't look like Terrestrials, or rather they look like Terrestrials with unearthly hues for skin and hair and blood, with Always Glowing All-Colored Eyes (AGACE). Jor-El discovers Earth and obsessively studies it from afar for decades before he became aware of Krypton's imminent demise.

Jor and Lara were commissioned by the Science Council to come up with gear that would hide any future Kryptonian explorers from detection by Terrestrials. They come up with an unbreakable (by Earth standards) but reshapable gear that can be worn by future Kryptonian colonizers. While worn, their relatively massive bio-energy signatures are completely masked from Earth sensors. It can also scan immediate sapient lifeforms and adapt Kryptonian outward features to match their local Earth features.

Basically, in this scenario, Kal can safely grow up ANYWHERE on Earth: Africa, Asia, South America, etc. His gear/spacecraft scans nearby humans and outwardly adapts his alien features to match theirs, be they white, black, Asian, latino, etc.

On on this Earth, Clark Kent in America is merely Kal's oldest Earth guise. He also regularly spends time in Latin America, Asia and Africa under the civilian guises of Hernan Guerra, Kong Keenan, and Calvin Ellis, respectively.

Clark/Hernan/Keenan/Calvin perfectly passes for Terrestrial (by human eyes and electronic sensors) ... as long as he continues to wear that gear: his refashioned eyeglasses. Once the glasses come off, his overwhelming bio-energy signature is readily apparent to all sensors and he reverts back to his natural Kryptonian features: let's say, for example, unnaturally deep pink (not peach) skin, bright blue hair, AGACE, and the Supersuit (which is symbiotic and can change into Earth clothing via Kal's own thoughts). Human enough from a distance, but up close, he's Other.

The idea that Clark (or any of his other guises) could ever be Superman never once enters anyone's mind at all.

The Metropolitan Man is really similar to your idea, except it's from the POV of Lex Luthor.

I mentioned this once before, but:

1935.. the rocket ship lands in a small rural community.

A couple's only child is stillborn. The doctor leaves. Suddenly, they see a blue light outside their door and go to see what it is... and it's the rocket. Inside they find a baby, and the grieving mother declares that this child is a literal gift from God himself. They take the child in, bury the rocket, and name the boy...

    Elvis Presley.

Thus begins the story of Kal-Elvis.

Funny enough, the Presley's really did see a blue light the night Elvis and his stillborn twin were born. There's a whole shiteload of little tidbits that could be incorporated - from his manager the Colonel being illegal immigrant Lexius Van Lutheur who uses the money to fund his hidden evil schemes, EP being a "secret savior" on the side dressed like his comic idol - Capt. Marvel Jr, and then eventually faking his death (because that just has to be in there as a nod to the after-death craziness) to take down Lex. He then has to have a new identity, and chooses Clark Kent - thus completing the cycle of most Elseworlds stories of them ending up, in some fashion, similar to regular continuity.

Kal-El is found by a poor Italian Immigrant family traveling back from Sicily in 1985. He is raised in New York and he gets involved in Organized Crime which leads to him running his own crime family. His powers and power level are slightly below his Golden age counterpart. The story revolves around Kal forming his own crime empire and trying to stay ahead of District attorney Lex Luthor.

Superman: Ben Steel and his Bear Hans
When his powers first start to manifest, a young Clark Kent panics and runs away from home. Eventually he ends up joining one of those old fashioned traveling circuses where he befriends a large bear and becomes a circus strong man (who performs of course under the name Ben Steel).

    Superman: The Man of Yesterday
In this universe, Kal-el isn't sent away in a rocket that arrives almost immediately on earth. Instead, it's a small space craft where he grows up in solution with only various robots and computer records to keep him company. While his computer is programmed with knowledge of the planet Earth, it's highly out of date resulting in Superman with silver age mentality arriving on modern DC earth as an adult.

I've been tossing around a kind of similar idea.

Ultraman in Crime Comics # 1 is a retelling of Superman # 1, Shusterian art style and all, wherein the same stories are retold to feature Ultraman in Superman's role, and instead of helping people, he takes what he can and gives nothing back, seizing power and generally being monstrous! The bit featuring his origin could feature an abridged Godfather-type story like what you describe. I always kind of pictured Ultraman as being raised by an extremely ruthless petty crook with mob connections, someone like Joe Chill. (Charlie Chill? Kasey? There's no reason he literally needs to be raised by Joe Chill, but I like the potential for a reverse-"Clark Kent" name with a "KC" structure instead of "CK") I don't think it makes sense for Ultraman to have a secret identity, so probably the Clark Kent sections are replaced with something completely different.

From there, you've got Ultraman blackmailing Bea Carroll instead of turning her in, ensures Evelyn Curry gets the electric chair, etc. Meanwhile, the corrupt governor he terrorizes, instead of being pleased that Superman is a champion of justice, is satisfied that at least Ultraman knows how to play the game! Then Ultraman helps Emil Norvell with his weapon trafficking in San Monte - in exchange for an overly-generous cut of the profit, and Norvell for his part gets to keep his skin- and then takes a bribe from corrupt mine owner Thornton Blakely to help him keep his inhumane conditions in his mines on the down low and silence the workers trying to appeal to the media!

As for the sports story... I might rather just replace that one with a story about Alex Luthor or something.
"You know the deal, Metropolis. Treat people right or expect a visit from me."
