I thought this might be Batman Lost good, but it was not. Too much like the rest, by the numbers with these “Dark Knights” one-shots. The Batman Who Laughs should have gotten a more memorable tale. There was some hype for this and it didn't deliver enough. It's this kinda disappointment that makes me not really big on James Tynion IV like some are.
Snyder and Williamson should have pitched in on this one too. Perhaps more pages were needed too.

Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft
Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”
Well that was disappointing, an origin story which was better summarised in an interview.
Did they ever reveal who the Batman Who Laugh's Robins were? (aside from the one that was clearly Damian.)
This issue didn't actually reveal anything new, spent most of the issue being all dark and edgy.
Well this was dumb.
I enjoyed it. It wasn’t perfect but it wasn’t bad. I think the Drowned was the worst tie in so far. I think I enjoyed Batman the Merciless the most. I like Tynion. He’s the only Batman writer, other than Snyder in Metal, that I’m enjoying right now.
I don't mind dark/evil takes on a hero but this book was just too cruel and violent for me especially the stuff that happened on the Watchtower.
Honestly I hope the Batman who Laughs gets curb stomped by the REAL Joker at the end of Metal, now that would be a laugh.
When you crush an ant beneath your foot, do feel remorse? No. Is this because you are evil or because you recognize yourself as a higher form of life? This is what the Wizard could not understand. If I have the powers of the gods, then am I not a god myself? Should I not be treated as such?
I also expected something along those lines since they seemed to teasing and referencing DITF Robins and Crowbars [I know Damian did beat the crap out of Joker with a crow bar but not as well known]
It was a wasted opportunity. A huge let down this particular Dark Batman had so much potential [sign]
Does anyone else get the sense that the reason that the Batman Who Laughs dealing with the Spectre just being mentioned in a caption rather than it actually being explained or shown, is that the writer couldn't think of a way that Batman could actually accomplish that?
Tell, dont show storytelling has become incredibly common in the Batbooks since Rebirth which is why I really dont care about them.
