Default Question on Night of Owls, Court of Owls etc.

Hi. I am more of a Marvel comic books reader but recently saw the TPB "Death of the Family" at a store and bought it.
I saw somewhere that before reading that I should read Night of Owls, City of Owls and Court of Owls.
Can you please tell me, perhaps with Amazon URLs or something (if that is legal in the forum!) what are the TPBs I should buy for that, before reading Death of the Family?
    Thanks!

    Yes, Nick Miller nails it.

Interestingly, as sort of an aside to the OP's question, Death of the Fam sorta ends with this...state of affairs with the Batfam of distrust. And Snyder doesn't resolve it really in his own later volumes. Instead Tomasi resolves it in his Hunt for Robin/Robin Rises volumes. When I custom bound Snyder, I took out Zero Year because I'm not a fan of it, and threw in Tomasi's Hunt for Robin/Robin Rises volumes to narratively bring closure to Death of the Family.
Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft

Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”

Got it. But then question is what is the difference/overlap between these 2 TPBs:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/14012...0UL&ref=plSrch
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/14012...+of+the+family
The one I currently have is the 2nd
    Thanks

You want the first trade. The second TPB (which DC adjusted its contents slightly before releasing, thus sites get its contents wrong) is mostly not the main arc issues, but tie-ins. As one on Amazon statesd: "THE JOKER: DEATH OF THE FAMILY is a collection of tie-in issues plus Snyder and Capullo's Batman #17 and a brief excerpt from the final pages of Batman #13. None of the key chapters of the core Death of the Family tale [the entireties of Batman #13-17] are here because the key chapters themselves are Snyder's Batman [Vol 3, collecting Batman #13-17]. So if you want the primary story, read Batman volume 3 instead."

The full, chronological reading order for Death of the Family is as follows: (but I myself just stick with Vol 3, I wasn't a big fan of the tie-ins, but some were)

    Batman #13
    Batgirl #13
    Catwoman #13
    Batman #14
    Batgirl #14
    Catwoman #14
    Suicide Squad #14
    Batman #15
    Detective Comics #15
    Batgirl #15
    Suicide Squad #15
    Batman and Robin #15
    Nightwing #15
Red Hood and the Outlaws #15
    Teen Titans #15
    Batman #16
    Detective Comics #16
    Batgirl #16
    Batman and Robin #16
    Nightwing #16
Red Hood and the Outlaws #16
    Teen Titans #16
    Batman #17

Sorry for you but it's a bad choice of comics.
Reading vol.1 & 2 is not necessary but you should they are much better.

The problem with Batman is that it's arcs are constently a crossover. But rest assured the non-batman titles are never necesssary and are easily skipable.

    But it goes as follow:

    1 Owls arc
    1.1 Court of Owls
    1.1.1 Batman #1-7
1.2 Night of the Owls Crossover
    1.2.1 Batman #8-11
    1.2.2 All-Star Western #9
    1.2.3 Batgirl #9
    1.2.4 Batman and Robin#9
    1.2.5 Batman Annual #1
1.2.6 Batman: The Dark Knight #9
    1.2.7 Batwing #9
    1.2.8 Birds of Prey #9
    1.2.9 Catwoman #9
    1.2.10 Detective Comics #9
    1.2.11 Nightwing #8-9
1.2.12 Red Hood and the Outlaws #9
    1.3 Spin-off - Scourge of the Owls
    1.3.1 Talon #0-7
    1.4 Spin-off - Fall of the Owls
    1.4.1 Talon #8-17
    1.4.2 Birds of Prey #21
    2. Fill-in story
    2.1 Batman #12
    3. Death of the Familly crossover
3.1 Death of the familly: Chapter 1
    3.1.1 Detective Comics #16-17
3.2 Death of the familly: Chapter 2
    3.2.1 Catwoman #13-14
3.3 Death of the familly: Chapter 3
    3.3.1 Suicide Squad #14-15
    3.3.2 Batman #13
3.4 Death of the familly: Chapter 4
    3.4.1 Batgirl #13-16
3.5 Death of the familly: Chapter 5
    3.5.1 Red Hood #13-16
    3.5.2 Teen Titans #14-16
3.6 Death of the familly: Chapter 6
    3.6.1 Nightwing #14-16
3.7 Death of the familly: Chapter 7
    3.7.1 Batman and Robin #15-16
3.8 Death of the familly: Conclusion
    3.8.1 Batman #17
3.9 Death of the familly: Epilogue
    3.9.1 Batman and Robin #17

Those are the books to buy:

    1. Batman: Court of Owls
2a. Batman: Night of the Owls (for the full crossover book)
2b. Batman: City of Owls (for the Batman only book)
3a. Talon: Scourge of the Owls
3b. Talon: Fall of the Owls
4a. Batman: Death of the familly (for the core issues)
4b. Joker: Death of the familly (for all the tie-ins)

I hope it is all clear for you now.

Actually Nightwing #1-7 Traps and Trapezes also ties-in to the Owls story line as well.

    Hi
Just to confirm - if I have the Batman: Night of the Owls TPB I don't need to buy Batman vol. 2, right?
    Thanks

What Batman vol.2 collects are the Batman chapters of Night of the Owls and Batman #12, somewhat of an aftermath about Harper Row, just find the floppy solo issue and you will have it all.

Yea correct. Though I prefer the Vol 2 tpb over the more fuller Night of the Owls TPB. The longer version is...too long, drags. I myself prefer just reading the Snyder parts of Snyder tie-in-overs (what I call the crossovers that involve Scott Snyder).
