Some have speculated it might have something to do with the French revolution. It's kind of surprising that Doctor Who has had little to do with the period or the following Napoleonic wars, even the audios and novels haven't covered it too much.

Maybe budget issues? Even the World War II stories have largely stuck to the blitz or events around it (Curse of Fenric, Empty Child/Doctor Dances, Victory of the Daleks, Sarah Jane's Lost In Time etc).

And although the Master has largely stuck to a fairly standard look outside of Missy he has dabled in period outfits, especially the Dawhan Master.

So I wonder if "The Giggle" will feature the regeneration. Not exactly a typical name for a regeneration story, although the original series never really had epic or ominous names for the regeneration stories like the current one. "Planet of the Spiders" "Caves of Androzani" etc.

People have also pointed out The Star Beast shares the same title as the comic of the same name that first introduced the definitely not evil Beep the Meep.

The first reminds me of starship UK from Matt Smith's era.

The second title reminds me of that cartoon on Disney XD. So an animated episode would be fun.

The last one is odd but "the giggle of the doctor" would be a funny title.

Seems pretty obvious that Donna gets her memories back without problems.

Or perhaps it's a partial fix; she remembers all their adventures but the "Doctor Donna" extra knowledge is gone. Perhaps a "gift" from the Toymaker?

Kind of thinking how the WHO trope of aliens meddling in past human historical events wasn't really much of a big thing until THE TIME WARRIOR. It happened in TIME MEDDLER of course but pretty much every other Hartnell story set in the past (with the exception of the Dalek pursuit through time serials which were pretty brief) were pure historicals, ditto with most of Troughton's stuff (Most of which is set in the future or present I think)....and of course Pertwee was stuck on present day earth most of the time, although I suppose the TIME MONSTER's Crete segments kind of count but they weren't there the entire serial.

After Time Warrior it pretty much became a thing in every season from Tom Baker onward. Even "Black Orchid" immediately followed "The Visitation".

Indira Varma has been cast as "The Duchess".

Of course way back she was also Suzie in two episodes of Torchwood.

The big fan theory is that she's the Rani in disguise. It would be funny if Groff and Varma are the Monk and the Rani.

I'm cool with the Master taking a break and letting them shine.

Yeah, apart from KINGS DEMONS which even the Doctor called a "Small time" plot for him, the Doctor seems mostly uninterested in meddling with history the way the Monk and Rani do. He's more "Get a new body" "conquer the Earth/universe" or "get revenge on the Doctor" most of the time.

Would be interesting to address where they've been though-did they fight in the time war? Somehow escape the Master's rampage?

Of course there is a possibility the specials might reset Chibnall's destruction of the Time Lords, Gallifrey is mentioned in one of the ads. Kind of funny because his last story (End of Time) kind of gave Moffat at least enough of a loophole to bring them back in "Time of the Doctor"...

I don't know if bringing back Gallifrey is worth it. It might be better to leave it gone if all they are gonna do is destroy it. But maybe Davies has a cool take on the planet that would require bringing it back and explore them beyond the Doctor and the Master? It's one way to parallel his first era and works as a bookend.

Jinx Monsoon episode will reportedly feature an "unexpected" guest star from the Tom Baker era. Doesn't seem to say anything about a character (K-9 would probably be the most obvious choice to return, as it's a fairly easy prop to reuse, think Leeson is still around and unless it's MK II there's no connection to Gallifrey/Time Lords like living companion actresses Louise Jameson and Lalla Ward).

Although it could just mean they're in a new role of some kind like Jaqueline Hill in Meglos, or many companion actors playing different roles in the audios. Or the reverse of Freema and Karen Gillian.

We can probably rule out Janet Felding/Tegan as she just came back.

Maybe Matthew Waterhouse? Definitely could fit the "unexpected" bill...

Lalla Ward coming back as Romana would be my dream situation!

Terry Malloy is back as Davros in the third part of Once and Future with the Seventh Doctor in the Time War, interesting concept. This series seems to be basically using the Unregeneration concept as an excuse to use the past Doctors with New Series era knowledge.

The first episode lead me to believe it's the War Doctor that's regenerating backwards. But maybe it could be 12 or 11?
