He does a great job channeling Troughton. Listen to any of the Big Finish audios he's in and you'd swear Patrick was in the studio in the next booth. It's not just impersonating the voice, he also evokes the mannerisms. There's a really funny moment in Lords of the Red Planet where the Doctor gives an Ice Lord a pat on the back, but then shakes his hands to numb the pain.
For me that's the difference between simply putting on a voice and really inhabiting the role. The key is to do the homework about the original performance and work out what makes the character tick. Tim Treloar did loads of research for the Third Doctor and it shows. Elliot Chapman knows his Ben Jackson, even pitching his voice slightly differently between First and Second Doctor stories because that's what happened on TV. The only recast that Big Finish has done that hasn't entirely convinced me is Jemma Powell as Barbara. It could be that the only two stories she's been in as Barbara weren't written to highlight her or that I haven't seen any of Jacqueline Hill's Barbara recently, but I'll need more stories with her as Barbara to be convinced.
While not recasts, many of the impressions of the Doctors in the Companion Chronicles are top notch. William Russell and Peter Purves capture perfectly the First Doctor at the early and middle points of his era. Wendy Padbury does a pretty good Troughton. Katy Manning has fantastic vocal range (she's in a couple of CCs as Jo Grant and Iris Wildthyme).
David Troughton does bear a resemblance to his father (Funny thing is, his nephew-who appeared in harry Potter as Harry's cousin-looks a lot like Matt Smith now). Reece Shearsmith-who appeared in Sleep No More as the villain-played Troughton in An Adventure In Space And Time, but didn't seem to really embody the role quite as good as Bradley did with Hartnell.

Agreed with all the various actors who have portrayed the Doctor and companions, but William Russell's performances especially are incredible, and not just his First Doctor/William Hartnell (which is nigh on perfect). If you ever hear him interviewed his natural voice has clearly gotten an esteemed elderly vibe to it, but when he starts playing Ian again in audios it's like fifty plus years fall away and he's suddenly exactly the same as he was in the 60's, which is just spell binding. I always know I'm in for a treat when he's in one of the audios.
It still annoys me that they haven't animated the rest of The Crusades (I really want that on my shelf.) However, as you pointed out, it needs to be viable enough to earn money. Something to justify the cost. We only got Power because funding came from the states. Underwater Menace would have benefitted from having its missing episodes animated as well.
As for missing stories I'd like returned, i would say Celestial Toymaker is up there. Purely because it is such a visual story. It also has the lovely Michael Gough. Other stories would be Wheel In Space, Fury From The Deep, Faceless Ones and Abominable Snowmen.
I don't necessarily need full stories returned (although it would be awesome if they were). I just really want a few orphans to turn up. If another two episodes from Wheel came back, I'd be ecstatic because the BBC could finally animate the last two episodes and give us a nice DVD release.

So Shada is the next animated story. I guess they think Tom Baker is more of a money-maker than the Hartnell/Troughton years.
“Now faith, hope, and love remain, and the greatest of these is love.”--1 Corinthians 13:13
“You had a dream; I have a plan”--Cyclops
“There's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes.”--The Doctor
No-one disputes that, the point I was making was that when you ask Who fans what gaps they want plugged with animations the obvious answers are Hartnell or Troughton stories. I'm actually a big fan of Tom, Douglas Adam's, and Shada, but it's a bit out of left field. I mean, we had a McGann flash animation version, and Ian Levine's unofficial animated version (I've not watched it but I understand it's out there), and now we're getting a third animated version...

Hey everyone, Enigma asked me to post my DW collection in the 'Collected Editions Shelf Porn: Show Me Your Goods' thread, so I just posted some pics of my collection there:

If you guys could, I would love to see all of your collections. I really enjoy seeing other Who fans' collections.

I suspected Shada would get revisited. Although I thought it would be as an audio. This is very surprising. Hopefully, as an animated project, it will allow the animators to go wild with it in a way the budget wouldn't have allowed back in the day.
Not what i would have wanted, but welcome nonetheless. If it leads to further stuff being done in the future, even better.
