Since the last Jodie special is supposed to air in November 2022 it's going to take a bit long I guess to see the new Doctor in action-who will probably appear at the end in costume-in action unless we get a special in-between. Then again, there have been long gaps before...Davison (10 months) Capaldi (8 months) and Jodie (9 months) as opposed to others who got to start right away (Troughton, Colin Baker etc)..not counting Pertwee, Mcgann, Eccleston etc because they didn't regenerate at the end of an earlier episode.

Whereas Jackie on the other hand was a pretty huge part of Rose's story, as was Martha's family as well. (Heck, now the actress who played her sister is pretty big) And of course there was Donna and Wilf.

Chibnall of course has also had the families although not as much as RTD did.
    Probably.

Oh rest assured I have been chugging along on the Big Finish train the past few years. Love all the audio adventures they have.

Need to dip into the 3rd Doctor stuff. I am a HUGE Pertwee fan, (he's in my Doctor Top 5) and the trailers I have heard with the VA they have for him, he seems to do as good a job as one can expect with his voice.

That's the upside to RTD being back. The man knocked out 4 series in 4 years. If anything has contributed to the atrophy to the audience, it is the wait between series. It needs to be back on tv yearly. Preferably the same month start date. With Who, out of sight is definitely out of mind. It can't keep doing that.

I think the 3rd Doctor could be a precursor to the War Doctor. Unlike other regenerations this one was forced upon him by the Time Lords. So you could examine away the differences between 3 and all the other takes by focusing on the Time Lords. They tried to push the Doctor to fill a certain role but their innate personality won out.

    Just my headcanon.

There are reports that filming on season 14 begins next Spring, so presumably we'll probably get a new Doctor announcement before then.

No confirmed reasons, but money has been cited before.

Jodie's finale is apparently going to be "feature length" according to publicity for Eve of the Daleks. Wonder if that means a two parter like End of Time or an extra-long episode like Day of the Doctor was.

Well, Covid impacted series production (That's one reason they've given). But I think it's they want to make the most of the centennial anniversary of the BBC and have Jodie leave then to maximise publicity and get as many bums in seats as possible.

As for why series 14 is taking time? The show is going to have a total overhaul and that takes time to produce. Plus I think Davies is playing it smart by having it drop in November 2023 for obvious reasons.

At least it's a much smaller gap then "the wilderness years".

Next special brings back a villain we haven't really seen since the 80s (Well, we've seen their cousins).

Looks like they're taking the same basic redesign route they took with the Flux Sontarans, use updated mask/CG technology but still keep the basic look of the original. Curious if we'll also have Chibnall sneak in some Silurians truer to the original design than the Moffat ones.

Also wonder if they'll bring the Master into this, since he of course worked with these guys...
