Except that the OP put an arbitrary 6-issue limit in place.

Mine is Flex Mentallo, by the way.

    D'oh!

    OK, fair point.

Then mine would be a two-way tie between these standalone 1986 miniseries

THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS by Frank Miller

    and

THE MAN OF STEEL by John Byrne

because these two miniseries written by already-acclaimed masters of the medium stand out as the two greatest examples

... of how to ruin a comic book icon through needless over-adultification.

In TDKR, Batman became an overzealous maniac.

In TMOS, Superman became a pro-establishment Republican.

Over 30 years later, canon Supes has thankfully rejected almost all of what Byrne put in, while canon Bats still holds onto a wee bit more Miller than he should.

I think my favorite mini-series of all time is Mister Miracle and it's only on issue 4 but I think it runs 12 issues (I hope it does!) so maybe it's more a maxi-series.

Here's a pretty random one: BUG! The Adventures of Forager is pretty great.

You can't beat Justice League: The Nail (or its sequel Another Nail for that matter)

The Dark Knight Returns was a 4 issue mini. Bit of a classic there.

My favorite JLA story ever and my favorite comic series ever (which gets a LOT of heat here) was a 7-issue mini-series, Identity Crisis.
I can't believe I forgot to mention Kingdom Come!!!

I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.
