With editors influence or not extraordinary was really bad and his Nightcrawler story was terrible.
Yeah, as a Polaris fan, I have to say Claremont's treatment of Lorna in the 80s was a clear case where he needed editorial intervention. His approach to Lorna was pretty much to use her as a karmic punching bag for other characters. Not even just figuratively, but literally too. In stripping Lorna of her powers, one of the new ones Claremont put on her was to make her incite hatred in people around her. This included toward her. One scene had a random guy try to kill her because of these powers despite the fact she was trying to save his life. His general negativity toward Lorna has persisted in later work, such as during his writing of Lorna on Genosha, and for X-Men Forever.
That's not saying anything bad about the rest of what Claremont did. But Lorna's a case where he really could have used an editor's oversight.

I have no doubt that editorial was awful during his tenure; however, he was just as bad. Put all that together, and you've got one of the top three worst runs in X-Men history (he shares the dubious "honor" with Austen and Aaron).
Bleh.
What can I say but, "I love comics."
Didn't Joss' AXM come out when they were turning Gambit into a Horseman and Mystique and Lady Mastermind were X-Men? I needed a break from that **** and Joss was there.
Also Lemire and Ramos kept Illyana's boob window.
I think nothing can be rescued from Lemire's run, Austen at least gave us the Azazel-Nightcrawler thing, and I think he had to make the Xorn retcon, which means he gave us the good Xorn (the brother of the dead one), we saw recently in Bunn's Uncanny and Secret Empire-New Tian
Even something as small as aging up Anole and gibing him a fully developed muscular adult body, has been deleted.
dear jeff lemire,
please tell us the audience who was responsible for these items:
*sapna
*the toxic cloud
*storm hallucinating xavier that one time
*hideous hobo nightcrawler
Reading his story was a nightmare, so I guess we're even.
Sapna was 100% for sure his donut steel original character
Hideous hobo Nightcrawler wasnt that bad, because it at least meant adressing the fact that Nightcrawler has no soul (was resurrected without one), something that should have terrible consequences on his morality. Gold seems to be mainly ignoring that. Nobody seems to want to write Kurt doing bad things, and a story about him trying to get back his soul.
I want the New X-Men kids to have a alternate future(?) storyline where they're all older and full fledged heroing with futhaflipping Julian and Laura in full romantic swing and they can have Teen Bo in tow -- rainbow ribbon blasting the Eff outta folks' nervous systems, with her bestie Gabby doing the stabby stab.
