Default Do you bag your Trades, Harcovers & Ominbuses

Not sure if this has been asked before since I am new here, but was wondering if I am the only freak who has to bag their collected edition books (Omnibus/Trades/HC)? I can't help myself because I need to have all of my books sealed and protected. Although I do think they look nicer on the shelves without the plastic bags.

While on the subject...does CGC grade & encapsulate collected edition type books or is there a size limit?

The only collected editions that I bag are the ones with signatures on the front cover. I don't bother bagging anything else

    Of course not...that's ridiculous.

If you want to protect your hardcover dustjackets, use archival brodarts.

I bag them and store them in plastic tubs. I used to shelve them until my sister had a fire. Most of her things could be cleaned but all the books had to be replaced for smoke damage. Try replacing all them out of print books. I'll pass.

Bagging omniboo and OHCs would look ridiculous.

You are not alone, Bryan. I bag my all my Trades and if I have a fitting bag for the hardcovers, then these too.
    Which bags do you use?

Almost as ridiculous as calling something an omniboo

I do bag mine when I can to avoid shelf wear and dust. I never thought it looked ridiculous, although I guess it might to some. A friend once asked why the books had "condoms" on. It's always a good idea to use protection. I wish I had bagged some of my books sooner because some of my older books have wear from sliding in and out and rubbing up against the other books on the shelf.

Nope, can’t be bothered. Nor do I put little bits of cardboard or carefully sized post it note books under the page blocks to prevent sagging. I take care in how I handle the books of course and I mind the fact that many of them are real big and somewhat fragile - and I shelve the big books horizontally rather than vertically. But i’ve got hardcover and paperback books that i’ve owned for 30 or more years that i’ve really not made any special effort to take care of and they are still mostly in good shape.

Slightly related side story - a long time friend of mine recently passed away. He was a huge fan of EC comics and he had a bunch of the Cochran box sets that he acquired back in the early eighties. This friend was a good guy, but he had a lot of issues and led a sad life. He was essentially a hoarder but most of what he hoarded was garbage. His living environment was often an awful mess - and those EC sets were there through it all...usually piled on a floor under heaps of other stuff. When he became ill and passed away a few months back he essentially gave myself and another friend the rights to anything of his we wanted. I ended up with the EC books, and was quite surprised to find them in remarkably good shape in spite of the really terrible circumstances of their storage for more than 3 decades. You really have to work pretty hard to ruin a book...short of exposing it to moisture or flame of course.

Yes, I do - I just want to go that extra step in protecting them so I use excess plastic wrap from my job to bag them.

I want my tpb's to last so yeah I bag them according to this method:

    regular comic size 7"x11" - for 48-64 page and/or 200 page tpb's

magazine size - for thicker Essential/Showcase/Epic Collection types

treasury size - for Oversized hardcovers

As for Omnibus books I'm still on the look out how to protect them.
