Question If Peter Is Ever Allowed A True Love Interest Again - Who Should It be?

With all the changes going on at Marvel along with the ideas we've discussed here of a theoretical reboot of 616 Spider-Man, a question has sprung to my mind. If in the future Peter is once again allowed to be in a meaningful longterm relationship with a possibility of growth who should be the lucky lady? Let us say an event occurs in 2018 and reality is altered in a major fashion. Who would fit best in the role of Spidey's significant other?

FYI I went with an alternate version of Spider-Gwen, although I think Black Cat could also work well. I just love the idea of the Peter and Gwen swinging around NYC together fighting crime. But that is just my preference.

I'll rank them from most preferable to least preferable:

    1. Mary Jane
    2. Mary Jane
    3. Mary Jane
    4. Mary Jane
    5. Mary Jane
    6. Mary Jane
    7. Mary Jane
    8. Mary Jane

A few others I think would be good are Mary Jane, Mary Jane and Mary Jane.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot about Mary Jane. I think she also deserves a chance.

Au contraire, might I suggest Mary Jane?

I feel like a better poll question should be Is Peter Ever Allowed To Have A True Love Interest?
Cause what it sounds like from other editors and writers is that Peter really shouldn't, that he should date and it should fail.

Like you pointed out the poll result, in that case, would be the ultimate curb stomp lol. We all know what the editors, so far, all think.

    MJ.

Don't fix what's not broken. As RYV and the daily strip shows, it's been working well for 30 years.

Mary Jane is the woman for Pete, it's meant to be with the fans and with Pete. However, Marvel is on a crusade to not only keep this strong supporting cast member out of the book, but to keep Pete dating random other ladies with it not ever going anywhere.

I'm getting REALLY tired off all the above posters' nonsense. It should be Mary Jane.

I just noticed MJ got listed twice in this poll, once as her plain self, the other as her power-sharing alter ego Spinnerett

In which case, if there's ever a reality hiccup, could we just have the RYV Parker family just cross into the mainline canon and take over altogether?

I think that would be a continuity nightmare, while ripping both versions of Peter from their supporting casts. I get that it worked with Superman, but that was due to some events that won't necessarily work with Spidey (DC has been rebooted often, it tied in to Rebirth, Spider-Man's generally had a normal supporting cast). Plus, Renew Your Vows is not exactly a sales juggernaut.

Incidentally, there has been an earlier discussion on this.

You mean like Miles in 616 right? It's one of the few repercussions of Secret Wars Marvel haven't really delved that deep into, and are more trusting of the reader to ignore it.

while ripping both versions of Peter from their supporting casts.
The RYV supporting cast has barely been utilized outside of Liz and Normie, unless you count token cameos from Gloria Grant and Jameson. The focus has been mostly on the family.

Neither was Lois and Clark, the original mini-series that served as the backdoor pilot for the Super-Family status quo

Would you be more down for it if it were not a case of upturning reality/continuity, and was more the Parker family taking over for a little while, a year maybe, and there being a mystery built as to what happened to the mainline Peter?

Again, that might be too similar to what happened in the early months of Rebirth though.

Incidentally, there has been an earlier discussion on this.

    Thanks. It's a good back-and-forth.
