it's comic so speeds can vary based on showing. But Flash pretty much consistently edges Superman and most other people.

Speed is pretty much Flash's one thing (he's very versatile in the ay he uses it) so if they let Superman edge Flash in speed that'd be pretty damming as far as the Justice League team dynamic and roles went.

It depends on which era Superman and which Flash, of course.

There were large parts of the Silver Age where Barry Allen and Superman were effectively at the same speed level running, and by inference Superman may have been able to move faster still in space.

And I suppose that there was part of Wally West’s early career when his speed was heavily curtailed when Superman was faster.

But certainly general rule in last 30 years is that fastest Flash is considerably faster than Superman, and large majority of fans regard this as the natural order of things.

(I have to say, that as a Silver Age dinosaur I personally reject the arguments that suggest it is inevitable that Flash is much faster. The idea that all full powered Wally could do was run fast is really, really weak...he was probably the most overpowered character of the Bronze Age when all his abilities are taken into account.)

Back in the days some speeds of Superman were insane. Mind you its not just the speed of light.

    Trivia:

Speed of light in vaccum is 1,86,282 miles per second. Roughly 0.2 million miles per second.

1 Trillion is one million millions.

And Superman could travel through time too.

I should have started with something lower. Where to go from here?

That looks like Silver Age Superboy who may have a “shout” as the fastest DC character of all time.

Yes...I know, of course, the Silver Age Superboy was the young Clark Kent, but from my memory (so suspect) many of the really outrageous Clark Kent speed feats came in the Superboy comics, rather than Action or Superman.

For example, I always associate him flying round Earth at hyper light speed to time travel with Superboy comics rather than the adult Superman. (Clockwise into the future, counter-clockwise into the past!) (I was really interested in that regard in seeing your second example that showed that Superman could indeed time travel using his own power.)

Also sometimes depends on who the writer is.

Pre-COIE, it was a tossup, but Post-COIE, it's decisively been Flash.

Actually Superman was heavily depowered at the time after the Byrne reboot and Wally raced him and won.

I don't know what Barry's current power levels are at but Wally would wipe the floor with him just by virtue of stealing Kal's speed alone and could beat him in his sleep.

During that race between Wally and Superman, however, Wally was also at one of his speed ebbs. I think Wally was strictly sub-light at the time.
