Keeping the Egyptian mythos in the story adds legitimacy to Hawkman being a person of color. If DC goes with the Thangarian angle, they could change the "space cop" concept to a soldier/military back drop.

Carter Hall isn't POC. He started as a blonde white man.

Post Crisis Katar Hol before Johns was half Thanagarian (via Paran Katar) and half Cherokee (via Naomi Carter). That Hawk was POC.

Earth 2 Hawkgirl (New 52) was definitely POC.

(Always found it interesting that the Thanagarian Hawks in DCAU were voiced mostly by Latina and Latino actors.)

They should drop the entire Egyptian and reincarnation nonsense and go pure Thanagarian background for Hawkman.

I disagree with both of you and think they should just give up on the space cop angle and stick with the Egyptian reincarnation angle. The space cop angle just does not sell.

They don't need to drop any of it.
They should just move the space cop all the way back to the incarnation before the pseudo-Egyptian reincarnation.
And then they rediscover it in modern times.

Two Ancient Thanagarian Alien "cops" on the run , who could reincarnate, (who physically looked somewhat Egyptian) a couple thousands of years ago hid somewhere among ancient Egypt. Influencing a pseudo-Egyptian hawk cult. Which is fomented, by yet another Thanagrian hiding among them, who is perusing the couple, for their "crimes".
They are killed (as per the Golden Age) in Ancient pseudo-Egypt, and awake (reincarnated) through time. As they find each-other again, figure out their past, where they came from, they are killed again.
Only to awake again, and start over, a bit of a curse, as they are killed right before they re-discover the full truth.

In modern times, now (where the contemporary stories take place) , they have found each-other again, figured out what/who they are, their link to Thanagar which they will explore has been discovered, they have found their alien but archaic looking weapons, gear, and attire (even their ancient ship, which they keep hidden). And are trying to survive, while still being pursued. As they figure out the details of who/what they are, and seek to prove their innocence, before they are killed again.

It's in the context the modern Hawkman & Hawkwoman should be explored. Simultaneously exploring current events on Earth, modern Alien world Thanagar, and flash-backs to their past lives through ancient Thanagar, and throughout Earth's history to today.

I was always a fan of Katar Hol from post Zero Hour & Carter Hall from All Star Squadron so if DC combines the two with some Indiana Jones & a 30's detective (NOT BATMAN) It could be a great read.

Not sure what the significance of humans migrating is in regards to Egyptians. DNA tests have shown that the Ancient Egyptians share the same DNA as modern Egyptians.
So getting back to Hawkman. If he is an Egyptian it would be correct to make him white.

Oh really? Well, that's an interesting little theory you got there my friend. I actually have been to Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt myself quite a few time and here in France we have a somewhat big part of our population being from there. (mostly Algeria and Morocco, cause of our complicated history with those countries)

Seems to me that the population of those countries is mostly composed of people of Arab descent. (and look at that, it actually is backed up by History starting from the 7th century)

Now, maybe you consider Arabs to be white, that's an another question. (not sure how the said people are going to feel about that though)
