Superman is definitely more involved here...and it all goes to hell for him by the end. Darn Russians.

Before things go further, for this thread to be safe for most readers that want to avoid spoilers of future issues, I'd argue it would be best to include spoilers ONLY from books that have been released. Not spoilers of leaks of issues that are inaccessible to the vast majority of people on this forum.
Plus, we don't want to encourage piracy.

From the solicit: "As the truth behind Dr. Manhattan's actions against the DC Universe are revealed, Ozymandias turns to the only being who can stop him: Superman. "
Why Superman? Why not Captain Atom or Firestorm? They are on the same power level as Dr. Manhattan.
The Gypsies had no home. The Doors had no bass.
Does our reality determine our fiction or does our fiction determine our reality?
Whenever the question comes up about who some mysterious person is or who is behind something the answer will always be Frank Stallone.
"This isn't a locking the barn doors after the horses ran way situation this is a burn the barn down after the horses ran away situation."
Because the problem isn't going to be solved with brute Force. In this case, the thing that makes Superman the right pick is the esteem he is held in, and his moral fiber. It's the same reason why he was the lynchpin in Kingdom Come: there were plenty of other supers more powerful than him; but what mattered was his leadership and character.
In many ways, Doomsday Clock is as much our more of a spiritual successor to Kingdom Come as it is to Watchmen. Like Kingdom Come, it's a response to the direction comic books have taken off late; but where Kingdom Come used a new, younger generation of “heroes” to represent the style of comics that it was confronting, Doomsday Clock is using the Watchmen in that role. Otherwise, though, the stories are very similar: the world is going to Hell in a handbasket because of the actions of our stand-ins for comics-gone-wrong, and Superman has to stand up to it and show everyone a better way.

Indeed. As Batman Jones had said, a fine analysis.
I almost wanted a Moore/Gaiman mash of Morpheus and Manhattan discussing stories and the direction comics, particularly super-hero comics, have taken. But Superman is the symbol of what a comic superhero is. He's the icon, the alpha. Where Kingdom Come's big scene was Superman reutrning to action (pun unintended), Doomsday Clock will have Superman making a stand and directing DC Comics into the next decade.
Wow, what an escalation! This book is always the most interesting at the moment. I read it in one breath.
Now starts again the bloody wait...
Well, theoretically since this issue was delayed it's not quite as long a wait for issue #9 (as long as that doesn't get changed from the current "In Shops: Jan 23, 2019" date).
It seems Adrian has accelerated a metahuman war and both Superman and Dr Manhattan are his unwilling pawns.
The last few panels are a little confusing, did Dr Manhattan intervene and cause the explosion at the end or was he controlling Firestorm?
This is as perfect of a Superman portrayal as you can get. Clark is able to see good in everyone, always try to avoid any conflict and most important of all, realize that hate is never the way. Johns simply nails the character here.
The story also reflects many classic Watchmen themes including the always present war between nations and Ozymandias' involvement in all of that. Classic stuff.
And of course, Frank's artwork remains stellar. What a fantastic read.
