Default Whats the name of this comic....?

... It's set in ancient rome where a young man goes to take revenge on the emperor (the emperor having massacred his family). On arrival he findes out that the emperor is immortal because he feeds jewish souls to a little satanic box he swallows between "feedings". It's excepcionally bloody, at one point featuring a murdered human arranged into the patterns of a swastika ("Do you want it?", "It's beautiful!". OR words to that effect).

I could go on but I suspect that should do it.

Do you have a time frame when it was published or when you read it?

    Color or black and white?

Was it published in the U.S. or elsewhere?

Was it an ongoing series. a one-shot, a story in an anthology?

There are lots of comic stories and sometimes its hard ot identify them without some context.

Almost sounds like some kind of manga book.

It's defintely not manga. I can assure you. I thought this would be easy for you ppl but I see I have to do so some more research. Ironically, when I tried to Google it again this post was hit #1.

It's in vivid color. Glossy even. It was an ongoing series, around 3-5 issues as far as I recall...

The box of course has a mind of it's own (as has all evil artifacts) At one point, after the emperor is seperated from it and killed by the head of the praetorian guard, it "finds" a new owner who tries to feed it subjects of roman gods. The box doesn't like that.

(I'm not crazy! This comic really existed!)

Do you remember who wrote it or the company that published it? There was a series from Avatar Press called Caligula by David Lapham that sounds like it might be what you are thinking of. Historically speaking, Caligula was Emperor of Rome after Tiberius and was infamous for his cruelty and depravity. He only ruled for 4 years and was assassinated.

(EDIT: Lo and behold (I mean) it's on readcomiconline.li)

Heh, it's even more depraved than I remember. Sheez. Definitely not for children, thats for sure.

You're welcome. If the character of Caligula interests you, years ago he was potrayed in two of those historical epics of the 1950s.... The Robe and the sequel Demetrius and the Gladiators.

I'm a great fan of history, especially ancient Rome. Augustus in particular. I've a feeling he's the poster boy for every wannabe dictator like f.i Putin.

No wait that was Karl the Great wsant it? Ah well. you know what I mean.

Nothing published by Avater is for children, or even faint-hearted adults.

No, they do a lot of genres, especially horror, and most of it is more NC-17 than hardcore porn, but the violence and gore is taken to extremes as well. But they've published stuff from several name creators as well (Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis, Jonathan Hickman, Kieron Gillen for example just off the top of my head), so it's not porn comics per se, unlike say Eros Comics or the like.
