STAR WARS The Last Jedi *SPOILERS!*

Have just got back from seeing it here in Australia, and the EP 8 thread in the Star Wars forum doesn't say spoilers, so...

Okay I really liked it. There are things I wished were different but by and large it was very good and better, I thought, that EP 7. Much better, in fact.

Mark Hamill was both impressive and at times hilarious. His reaction to Rey handing him the lightsabre got one of the biggest laughs of the movie.

Not only do we get to see Yoda again, but we get to see PUPPET Yoda again, which I [and my wife] loved.

Rey facing the mirror was, I thought, I nice homage to the excellent Clone Wars animated shorts on Cartoon Network just before Revenge of the Sith came out.

The light speed ram was as spectacular as it was ridiculous. I mean come on, if that were a legitimate tactic then the Rebellion would have been obliterating Star Destroyers with corvettes. But for the story purposes it was okay. However, you would have to wonder if it were really a suicide mission to be on the cruiser why the Vice Admiral didn't do that as soon as the transports escaped.

Speaking of which, the First Order must have money out the wazoo to afford their military budget. Star Killer base and now Snoke's ship? Jeez!

I was sad to see Ackbar go so early.

Luke's final sequence was brilliant! I mean I should have realized but I honestly was so looking forward to him facing Kylo I didn't get it until just before the reveal.

The very last scene brought a bit of tear to my eye. As a kid of COURSE I was out in my backyard with a broomstick lightsabre.

All in all I give this one 9 out of 10

I managed to avoid all spoilers and 90% of the trailers and am glad I did. Seems to me they did a pretty good job. My mate and wife who also saw it today agreed ��

People are so angry that Luke dies they fail to see this isn't the end. He'll be back as a force ghost. Heck, force ghost Yoda is so powerful he can actually physically interact with Luke.

Who the hell was Snoke? Will we ever get an answer now he has been Darth Maul-ized?

Rey's parents are nobodies? Sure. As if that wasn't a bit of misdirection.

Also, how the heck can the Republic NOT notice the activities of the First Order to begin with? Money and resources going to building Starkiller bases, dreadnoughts and an entire armed fleet? They didn't see that as a cause for concern?

Is Last Jedi perfect? No. No film is. But this really did deliver the goods. It is an absolute visual feast. This finally delivers the scope I always imagined Star Wars could be. It is also never boring. Not once did I want to check my watch or get up to go for toilet breaks. I remained seated and silent.

I really loved the part where Luke tells Rey to reach out. She closes her eyes and sticks out her arm. Luke then brushes a branch against her hand and the exchange goes something like this:

Rey - "I can feel something"
Luke - "Really?"
Rey - "Yes. I definitely feel something."
Luke - "Wow. Thats incredible!"
Rey - "what?"
Luke- "You are really strong with the force"
Rey - "Am I?"
Luke - "Yes"

Then he hits her hand with the branch.

She yells and clutches her hand.

Luke tosses the branch away and says, "focus"

That echoed the relationship he had with Yoda.

Meh, personally i don't care about spoilers. I haven't watched the movie yet, don't plan to do so this week, but i did took a look at people's opinion and at the main elements of the movie.

Snoke though, pretty funny to think at all the theories people have come up with those two past years.

At this point, I don't care if we see FG Luke. We've been there done that, boring. It would have been far more impressive if they hadn't killed him off, do something truly different. But alas, he dies having utterly failed at everything. Basically this undercuts not only TFA, but ROTJ for me.

I HATED this movie. Like I was surprised at how much I loathed it. It managed to do what I didn't thing possible, be a SW movie that I hate more than Attack of the Clones.

They managed to crap all over Luke, Rey, Finn, and even Snoke's characters, all in the same movie.

Technically, they did-hence them aiding-in secret-Leia's resistance (The woman who dies on Hosnian originally had some more scenes as Leia's liason to the Republic) . The books/comics/games released by Disney do go a bit further in how the First Order managed to get such a large fleet-basically they allied themselves with a lot of pirates, crime lords, smugglers etc. as well as Imperial sympathizers in the senate-to get as many credits as they could, and largely rebuilt in uncharted systems.

TFA already undercut Return of the Jedi and reset everything back to where it was at the start of A New Hope. Maybe if we had been given a chance to get to know the Republic and how much space it controlled episode 7 wouldn't have made the original trilogy seem pointless.

As for Last Jedi, while I have problems with it (and with every Star Wars movie), I found it to be one of the better films in the franchise, certainly much better than TFA. Action was good. Characters were mostly better than in TFA, especially Rey and Kylo Ren, who were a big part of why TFA fell apart in its last act but are handled much better here. It actually had some surprises. I think that most of the time spent on the casino planet was just wasted, and I really wish they'd have given us something about who or what Snoke is, but other than that I liked it just fine. I agree - I would rate this as the third best, with the first two spots going to Empire and New Hope respectively.

There is a certain sad irony in how this movie ended - Leia is the only one of the original big three still alive, and yet Carrie Fisher is the only one of them that has passed.

People are going to hate this film. Basically Luke is a complete failure and it pretty much invalidates all his accomplishments in the original trilogy. None of it really mattered. Not only did Luke fail to save the galaxy because this imperial offshoot of the empire just sprouted up and took its place, he basically created the new big evil in the universe.

People can complain about the prequels all they want, the prequels at least put everything in place to lead into the original trilogy and practically canonized it by making everything dated. The sequels minimized it and actively made it less important in its own universe.

This was a film of good visuals, and that's it.

Mediocre movie and totally diminish the old trilogy,but it was impressive visually.

I have the theory that Snoke probably possesed Kylo Ren in order to have a stronger body.If not that,it was a waste of a big bad character.

It's the freaking same civil war setting. It's like if everything who happened in the OT was for nothing. And, cherry on top, our favorites heroes turn out to be losers who failed to accomplish what really mattered to them.

They copy the OT and in the same time **** all over it. (but it rimes...)

Well, looking at the broader scale of STAR WARS, there were struggles between the Light Side and Dark Side of the Force for millennia before the advent of the Skywalkers, and probably will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Neverending battle, and all that.

Even the real life has its parallels: did the struggle for equality and justice in the U.S. stop upon the end of slavery and the U.S. Civil War? With the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s? There are victories and setbacks, but the struggle continues. Same in life as in STAR WARS.

Query: could a Force ghost wield a lightsaber?
