It’s not like the Rebllion was very competent. At the end of the day the entire Rebellion could fit into one ship.

I'm not sure where people think Snoke was great, or his guards or anything in this movie for that matter. Just when I thought there was no way a character could be thrown away as badly as Darth Maul was, we now have Snoke. He was built up like this Big, bad that fueled years of speculation of who/what he was. Now, we have nothing. He died so pathetically that I don't know how a writer or director would think that this would not be incredibly disappointing to fans... It's pretty insulting tbh. Kylo's story arc is very bad, too. He was conflicted and you were lead to believe he and Rey were going to team up and take on the First Order together. But, nope... Suddenly he was evil again and now is the Supreme leader... Sorry, but the terrible character development in this movie (or lack thereof) is absolutey horrendous...

Nobody expected Kylo Ren to activate the lightsaber much less that he would do it in the way he did. His guards aren't psychic, they could never have known Kylo Ren would assassinate Snoke. They make up for that being able to take on Kylo Ren and Rey and while are not successful in subduing either of them, they do put up enough of a fight that rivals both fighters. Kylo Ren and Rey have to work together to deal with them as on their own they can fight, just not as effectively separate. They aren't effective in that they won that engagement, but are successful enough to hold their own against either Rey, or Ren so gives the impression that they are a threat not to be taken lightly.

The fact that he killed Snoke, and they were fighting guards together made you think he was redeeming himself and that he was now on Rey's side. Kid you not, in that scene when Kylo turns to Rey and offers to rule the galaxy together (basically making you realize he had not turned), a guy in the theater yelled, "Oh,come on!" They even screwed up that one part of the movie that could have been positive....
Snoke never had anything to him in TFA. All we knew was that he was a mysterious threat and before this movie it wasn't even confirmed he could use the force. Snoke's big draw was what he did to Ben Solo to ignite the Sequel trilogy but all the important stuff with him took place before The Force Awakens. I'm sorry it's disappointing but this trilogy was never going to tell us anything about Snoke other than what we already knew, the same was true of Vader and Palpatine. Snoke would've only been explored in flashback since his most important contribution to the story is Kylo Ren and we don't have to actually see that.
The whole movie Kylo Ren is trying to prove himself not to Snoke, but the darkside. The man has taken on the image of Darth Vader and gave everything to Snoke and even killed his own father to do that. He has conflict, but his conflict is trying to be Darth Vader, not his struggle between light and dark, he knows what he wants and that's not light. He hasn't shown any regret for what he did, and he's well aware of what his relationship with Snoke is. Kylo Ren even got talked down to by his master for wanting to be Vader which is why he destroys the mask. That was the lesson, don't imitate Vader, embody it. When he kills Snoke, he's still committed to the darkside. Nothing we saw prior showed him having doubts. He want's Rey to understand and join him because from his point of view not only did the Jedi not live up to the legend but one tried to kill him.
He's also an imitation Sith and Sith kill their master and take their place. Had he been recognized as a Sith apprentice this would be completely normal.

Are any actually watching the lightsaber? They aren't psychic. Kylo Ren has spent a good amount of time loyal to Snoke so it's not like they expect him to turn on him especially after he brought Rey to Snoke. They fail to protect him but are still good enough fighters it took both Rey and Kylo Ren to stop them. They're also in the same room with two main characters, they are never going to make it out alive. The only thing they can do is put up a fight and are enough of a match for either of them, just not together.

They are responsible for his safety, why would they move their sight away from their leader and the super dangerous weapon near him?
Remember Palpatine? Lesson here and they failed to learn? They are not here to have some fight show, they are here to protect their leader and they did nothing when he was killed. At least Palpatine's Royal Guards were called away by himself.
The thing is that nobody is expecting Kylo Ren to do it. Even Snoke who knows his thoughts doesn't realize the lightsaber moving is also the one next to him. What do any of them have to suspect out of Kylo Ren who has shown obedience to Snoke? Going farther than that, Snoke even took the lightsaber from Rey. Snoke's loyal enforcer is going to execute Rey, Snoke has demonstrated he can put Kylo Ren down, and Snoke has the lightsaber. As far as anyone is concerned the threat is Rey, not the guy who has shown nothing but loyalty prior to this point. Rey is the clear threat and so long as Snoke's attention is directed at Kylo Ren, he's safe. What he doesn't suspect is the method in which he is killed, none of them do. The force also does not have a visual (usually), so if one does notice the saber not only is it too quick to do anything about it but who can tell if it's Rey, Ren, or Snoke?
The guard are in this movie literally for a fight scene. But they are proven effective because of how the scene plays out. You don't need a villain to win to be threatening. Both our villain and hero have to team-up to best a room full of these guys and on their own can't do it. It's clear that if only one of them is in the room the guard would succeed and Snoke would live, but since both them worked together they succeed which plays to the dynamic of balance. The point is that the hero and villain succeed not because they are better than the other, but both worked in unison to win. When things are in balance (both Rey helping Ren) they can defeat the guard as otherwise they struggle and risk death.
Palpatine's guard got sent away because the fight was between Vader and Luke. Palpatine wants a new apprentice or keep his current one. Either way it's a fight to see who is better and having two guards takes away from "tryouts".

Last Jedi has a rating of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes for audiences... That's the lowest for any Star Wars movie ever (yes, even lower than Attack of the clones and Phantom Menace). This speaks VOLUMES.
