There's been a new podcast interview with Chip lately. He said, with the exception of the issue where Peter revealed who he was to Jonah, the book is editorially mandated to be quite light and fun, and is to be treated as a "soft reboot" that is in-continuity.

I wouldn't be surprised if Slott's plans for Jonah ended with Clone Conspiracy so Zdarsky had free reign to do what he wants.

That's good, because it would be just cruel to leave Jonah where he was before Spectacular, having not only lost his family (again) but nearly every last shred of respect and reputation that he fought for because of his involvement with New U.

Chip was promoting the first trade over on his tumblr, letting everyone know it included the issue Peter reveals who he is to Jonah.

Thats interesting,i thought the John Jonah Jameson story was in the second trade.This makes the first Spctacular Spider-Man Trade more of a must buy to me.

Indeed, there seems little interest in actually integrating most of Spidey's classic supporting cast into the "main book". I greatly suspect the whole Marvel Legacy hype of recent months was just another trick to lure back disgruntled fans.

Yes it is, but it's treated as a "light hearted soft reboot", which translates to "you don't need to read ASM to follow it"

See Amazing Spider-Man #29-31 and then #789-791 (Legacy renumbering) for that. Long story made short, Peter torched Parker Industries so Otto Octavius couldn't take it for HYDRA in the tie-in for Secret Empire, and ended up near-universally reviled and loathed because while PI in HYDRA's hands would definitely not be a good thing, lots of people still ended up losing their jobs for no other reason than PI getting caught up in a grudge match between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus (and Peter Parker's perceived mismanagement of the company even before that). Now, he's back at The Daily Bugle, working as the chief editor of the science reporting division.
