Well criminals are a superstitious and cowardly lot. They can rarely claim to have the high ground

And Darth Vader knows what happens when someone has the high ground.

The high ground gave Obi-Wan +2 Crit Chance, for example.

Somewhat more seriously, it depends on what Vader's current canon feats entail as far as going beyond the movies I would suppose, as otherwise his chances against a lot of the things on this list are low, let alone Ancalagon.

I'm not sure what Vader is supposed to do against a damn Balrog.

Technically the company policy is "Anything we don't reference made before X is non-canon.", not "Everything before X is non-canon.".

I mean I can see Sauron pretty much screwing with Vader's head like he tried to do to Finrod.

I can't think of anything made before the deadline that didn't have the Legends label slapped on it outside the Clone Wars series, even the stuff they pick and choose to put in the new canon like Thrawn get their legends history wiped and rewritten

The Balrog was never as big as it was in the movies, and Vader should be able to wreck any movie or book Maiar just fine. I mean first age Elves can go toe to toe with them, one even has two Balrog kills under his belt(Glorfindel or something?), and I wouldn't put them so far above Vader that he couldn't perform the same feats.

If we include EU feats..then he should perform a lot better.

I mean his name is Punderan for a reason.

He just loves him some puns.
Yeah, but if you... man, we're getting into weird analogy territory, like if you disintegrated Superman's arms he wouldn't be able to go "fool! Little did you know that my arms and I are one and can be remade from me!" and will his arms back into being from pure nothingness. - Pendaran

So he'll probably get up one of Ancalagon's toes.

Yeah, without even touching anything else on the list, that dragon is just.. really not in his wheelhouse of things he can fight.
