The main thing I wanted this issue to do was lay some groundwork for Kate's apparent "turn" in Detective, and it did that. Subtly and possible ambiguously, but it did that.
spoilers:end of spoilers
Kate definitely expresses a desire to stop Scarecrow for good, though she doesn't actually say he should be killed. But it's not a large leap. She's always been more comfortable with killing than Bruce, but has mostly refrained. As of right now, I can see her having cleared a mental hurdle of sorts in that regard.
At the same time, Kate and Jacob's conversation is full of enough strange visuals (like Kate de-aging) that the possibility she's still under the influence of some kind of drug can't be ruled out, especially since she was dosed twice in quick succession. Much of what Jacob says also sounds more like her nightmare vision of him than things he would actually say to her, though that could be a case of fronting for his troops.
So, I guess the actual answer will have to wait until later in Detective. But the groundwork is laid.

Safiyah showing up in flesh, in the present, was a big surprise, and pretty much confirms that TMAoD are stringing Kate along to torment her for what she did. Especially now that they've apparently captured Beth. There are some wrinkles created because of that, but none too bad.
This feels like the turning point going into a second act.

This is a very confusing preview to come into as someone unfamiliar with Batwoman! I assume she is under the effect of the fear toxin? Who is the other person with the multiple arms? I've been following (through comment threads only) what is going on in Detective Comics and I can see the seeds that you mention Caivu. I can appreciate that kind of turn that could be coming (having read solicits as well). Sometimes when you see the power of a darker force you think "if I can just control that... I could do so much good". It's classic and always interesting (to me) to see a new character try to wrestle it.
But, yup. This preview is SUPER disorientating yet extremely character/motivation revealing!
Yes. She's been dosed twice in quick succession, and the second time was with a special cocktail that is apparently a weaponized version Scarecrow was testing.
Fatima. She's the personal secretary to the CEOs of TMAoD, and also seems to work as a go-between for them and all their agents.Who is the other person with the multiple arms?

Sounds great. I'm behind as usual, but maybe over this long weekend I can take the detour.
