Possibly, maybe, unfairly, I make Keith Richards a scapegoat because honeslty, he may outlive us all.

A prominent musical artist passes, the reflecting on the the successes and the positive circumstances on ones life and where and how any fans related to it follow. In specifics, to Black people that is only part of the surface and through that it can be measured largely based on age of the person who passes. An outlook I'm realizing that comes with age.

Aretha Franklin passes, James Brown passes, tough on people, hard. Same time they were from an age even if their bases were not. Tupac passes, B.I.G., Hendrix, they passed quite young. Not all of them lived hard and fast either so this isn't that but still, a young and successful tragedy is a different kind of grief imo. I'm finding out, It's the ones in the middle, for me, as a reflection, that tear you up the most as.

So an overdue Rest In Peace to John 'Ecstacy' Fletcher who passed in December. Not an exaggeration I've thought about nearly daily since it happened and not always just for the impact of his groups music. John Fletcher (RIP), Jalil Hutchins and Drew Carter for all intents and purposes, were the gateway to me for Hip-Hop. Their sound was unusually polished and sharp for the early 1980's. Whodini was one of the few acts that actually had their early hits played on Black radio back in the day. They had multiple hits that still can be heard today. I responded to 'Friends', 'Freaks Come out at Night' and 'One Love' the same way people who speak about Rappers Delight as something ground breaking years before. Saw them more times than any other act largely because they were very accessible. Toured and came to Indianapolis usually for Black Expo a few times over the years.

He was only 56. Here's a great interview of him that came out only a year ago.

Happy to seem them honered so recently at a Black Music Honors presentation too.

Tonight's the night, for me to rip microphones in bit and pieces, lyrical telekinesis.
The fact that this came out 26 years ago blows... my mind. Kuruption is damn near 50.
