I just started reading Batman New 52 and i am a bit confused of the continuity of events of zero year.Can anyone please clarify whether zero year take place before or after the death of the family.

Before. Think of it as a flash-back.
It was released after DOTF, but is set before.
Batman Eternal, a spinoff book, is what's happening after DOTF, Batman the main book itself went with a flashback to his early days.
