Thread Drift: Dan Slott's Legacy

That hasn't been my experience.

In what I have read previously I felt it was just conveyed and utilized in a way that was more well-rounded then it has been with Slott, where it came off kind of absurd or hamfisted at times.

Can you list a writer (other than Stan Lee or Dan Slott) that implied Peter has anything other than an average intellect? I mean specific examples, not just names, because in my experience, it’s that Stan Lee made Peter a genius and then authors forgot that was a part of his character.

I’m not saying Slott is a great writer (he’s not), but I can give the guy his due. He did pretty much resurrect that aspect of Peter’s life.

Not untrue; however, as someone else pointed out to me, other geniuses such as Hank Pym, Tony Stark, Amadeus Cho, etc. face just as many challenges in their lives, and yet still manage to be superheroes and also be professionally successful. So it isn't completely valid IMO, unless Marvel shunts off Peter to his own separate universe.

i get that point, but it might also have something to do with socioeconomic status. tony was already rolling in cash before his superhero days. i’m not so familiar with cho or pym’s backgrounds, but if they’re at least middle class, they may have more of a leg up than a working class man who supports his aunty (does he? or did i make that up)

a lot of talent and ability goes unfulfilled because people are too busy just trying to put food on the table. couple that with fighting crime, and you can make a case for a peter with potential who never reaches it

or you can just go the whole self sabotage angle

Hank at least had enough money that going on vacations to other countries wasn't out of the question.

So, upper middle class, I'd say. He did grow up poor though.
