Default “Tony Stark could clean up Gotham in less than a year.”

Just was arguing against this point from a Marvel fanboy cousin. He says that Tony uses his fortune way smarter than Bruce and would wipe out crime in a year.

So could Batman if his writers and editors didn't keep Gotham exactly the way it is. And if Tony Stark would be allowed to have a go at gotham he would be dealing with those same writers and editors.

Also, Tony Stark so far has failed to wipe out crime in New York.

    Here we go lol.
"We live in a world of cowards. We live in a world full of small minds who are afraid. We are ruled by those who refuse to risk anything of their own. Who guard their over bloated paucities of power with money. With false reasoning. With measured hesitance. With prideful, recalcitrant inaction. With hateful invective. With weapons. F@#K these selfish fools and their prevailing world order." Tony Stark

If Tony would have been as disciplined as Bruce but after reading superior iron man I think Tony is more technologically advanced than Bruce. So yeah Tony could manage crime better but given discipline.

And as soon as that (theoretically) happened, new criminals would appear to fill the void.
And at some point, a new master threat (or three) would manage to emerge.

Then Tony can't, because he just doesn't have it.

From a story point of view it's going to be hilarious when the Joker and Calculator steals his old suits of armor and unleashes them on Gotham worn by Mr J's henchmen - they won't have the least idea how to use them of course but that will just make the chaos worse.

And then IM versus Joker of Steel.

End result - large parts of Gotham demolished and Tony blamed by the media and mass public.

Enter Rhas to reveal he was the one who took Calculator before he could be captured and now has Tony's designs, which he is working to reverse engineer.
If ten years of recording The Young and the Restless for my mother have taught me anything, it's that characters in serial dramas are always happily in love...until they're not

Joker's dead before he even figures out how to move in that suit. Tony's old armors are also a lot less powerful than his modern ones so it shouldn't take Tony long to disable them.

If Batman was allowed to use all his wealth and tech in exactly the right way all the time
He would no longer need to be Batman. He would just build a robot to keep gotham safe

Tony wasn't able to wipe out crime in any city, street or even building in Marvel. Stark Tower falls victim to crime all the time.

He might be referring to the high levels of technology that Stark uses. Joker won't stand a chance against his armor which is practically a tank. I don't know if Tony has a no kill rule in comics. Then it would be helpful too.

So, yes Tony just might be able to clean up Gotham city within a year. Emphasis on might. But then remind him about escalation. Remember the last scene in Batman Begins and the story in Dark Knight. When Batman fights crime by his newer and better methods, crime fights back by escalation. Even Batman comics is an example. Before Batman, the city was filled by mobsters and normal criminals but to fight him a newer breed of criminal arose. Tell him to read 'Long Halloween' and 'Dark Victory' its sequel. Both after reading 'Batman Year One'.

And Tony 'might'. He may still not be able to get rid of the Jokers and the Riddlers. If some tech falls into their hands it would be chaos. Just say a new cabal of villains called Technicians arise who can tackle his technology. Their demand and price will rise for sure. Its not a surefire thing that he will finish of the Scarecrows and Black Masks. Their challenge would be how fast they can adapt.

Its not so simple that his high levels of technology can help. Even if he could clean up the city a newer kind of criminal will arise to fight him.

You'd probably need someone with superpowers, like Superman. For example when Kara Danvers came out as Supergirl crime in National City dropped 65%.
In one episode of Supergirl National City was so crime free Kara Danvers went home and baked danishes. There wasn't even an eight year old stealing candy.

Tony cannot even prevent crime from happening in New York. All of Marvel's major superheroes are in New York and they can't solve it. Tony wouldn't be able to do shit in Gotham.
