    Default Cover Contest. July16-July 22.

    Hello.
This week theme will be Start of Great Runs in Comic Books.

One of my favorite runs in comics is of John Byrne in Fantastic Four, especially issue #232 that had him writing and illustrating the stories of Fantastic Four for the first time (Before that Byrne had just illustrated some stories.)

Comic books covers featuring the start of your favorite runs.

    The Rules are:

Post one, and only one, cover that fits the theme of the contest.
Cover must be from an published comic book or collected volume.
Covers must be posted before voting begins.
Voting runs from12 AM Tuesday until 12 AM Wednesday PST .
Vote by posting the name in bold of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most.
The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period.
    Have fun!

I think it will be tough to beat Byrne/Claremont, but I don't wanna go with that.

I'm back and forth between 3 (Gail/Nicola Scott on Secret Six, Terry Moore on Strangers in Paradise, and the one I'm gonna go with, but really. . any of them are excellent):

written by Karl Kesel, with art by Terry and Rachel Dodson. . it STARTS out with Harley admitting she needs help and checking herself into Arkham.

and it really explored the relationship with her and Ivy. (it only lasted about 14 issues, before the Dodsons went to Marvel, but a great run)

The first run that blew me away as a kid: Steve Englehart, Marshall Rogers and Terry Austin on 'Tec.

From Hugo Strange to Boss Thorne, from Silver St. Cloud to Deadshot, from Jokerfish to the Penguin, it all worked and looked gorgeous.

Morrison's X-Men. My favorite time on those titles, probably ever. Emma's snark. The stakes being raised. Their role in their world changing, evolving...

    Never been better.

    Bill Sienkiewicz!

This comic blew my mind when I bought it in '83 during my first year of art college. Brilliant layouts and visual story telling.

Okay, it doesn't look like much, but this is the first comic Joe Simon and Jack Kirby worked on together, the start of their partnership, a partnership that was undeniably one of the best runs in superhero history.

Because cover of the first issue of Greg Rucka's run was just plain boring (as opposed to the second one), here is Mike Mignola doing the cover to Alan Grant's first issue.
