    UPDATE:

Amazing Spider-Man: Red Goblin HC (10) - Thought Slott wrapped up his long tenure on SM well enough, though i found the Red Goblin to be a bit gimmicky. His last issue was a nice love letter to the character, and whether you loved or hated his run, you could always see his affinity for the characters. Will this gap between collections ever be collected is what i want to know.

Fables HC v12 (13) - Another solid collection of Fables lore.

Batman: White Knight TP (8) - A for art, C for story. The hype around this has been unreal, and mostly unwarranted imo. Let me just say, I've been a big fan of SGM for a while now, but idk what DC has been feeding him. He seemingly had himself declared the next Miller before an issue was even released, without the resume. It just didn't sit well with me, and tbf, maybe I went into this with the wrong mindset because of that. Either way, it fell flat for me, even more so when compared to some of the more excellent works I've read recently.

Kill Shakespeare HC (12) - Coming from someone who knows very little about the world of Shakespeare, this was a fun read. I'd liken this to LOEG, but within the confines of the "Shakespeare Universe". The "backstage" edition i bought was a handsome hc with a shakespearean-era design, and included annotations at the end of each chapter explaining all the easter eggs and whatnot, but it really wasn't necessary to enjoy the story.

Royal City TP v3 (4) - Another Lemire work that tugs at the heart strings. Thought it ended well, although it probably would read better altogether.

Redneck TP v2 (6) - This was much improved over the first volume, which itself was pretty solid. Still not ready to jump on the Cates bandwagon, although this series has won me over.

BPRD: Hell on Earth HC v3 (15) - God I love the BPRD. Non-stop and always compelling.

Gideon Falls TP v1 (6) - Completely different than anything i've read from Lemire before. A strange collection, with more questions than answers, but interesting to say the least.

Death or Glory TP v1 (5) - Remender's newest series. I really enjoy Bengal's manga-inspired artwork. The story is fast paced as the title implies, and Remender has chosen to include plenty of shock-value and social commentary to the mix. Not as much as in say Tokyo Ghost, for example, but if you're trying to avoid that stuff in your reading maybe give this one a pass

*edit: My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies HC (3) - Can be viewed on its own or in the broader scope of the Criminal universe. Either way a decent read.

I’m getting closer to 1,000 but still a ways off, here’s hoping I get there!

    October update:

    Amazing Spider-Man #7-8 (2)

    - Good little conclusion to the Boomerang arc and a decent set-up for what’s to come. The two-part Boomerang stint is definitely the highlight of the series thus far (loved the Lieber cameo, too). Not sold on the Black Cat story so far, but plenty of time to see where that goes.

Hawkeye by Fraction & Aja Books 1-2 OHC (23)

    - I’d already read the first book ages back, but decided to give it a reread and finish off the series. I liked this series a lot. It’s very technically sound and is really creative, quirky and inventive. Not my favourite series, but a very good one. Lots of fun to read and truly only a story comics can tell. Good stuff.

Invincible Ultimate Collection Books 8-12 OHC (60)

    - Finally finished this mammoth series and it was pretty good. This last third is probably my least favourite portion of the series as I feel it started spinning its wheels a bit (although I may have been just a bit burnt out). Still, it’s quite good. Like Hawkeye, it’s not my favourite series, but I like it. Fantastic art as always with some nice guest appearances from Cory Walker, too. The ending wasn’t exactly what I expected and I’m still a bit unsure on it. Overall a very solid series that I’d love to reread someday.

Moon Knight by Ellis Vol. 1 TPB (6)

    - This was great! I didn’t know if I was going to like it as I didn’t really like Iron Man: Extremis by Ellis and I didn’t know how well a collection of one-shot stories would read in trade, but it was really well done. Shalvey’s art is a great fit and he’s very good at communicating a story through his layouts and composition. Really well rendered. Ellis’ writing was also fantastic and the stories were all wonderfully told. My favourite would have to be issue #5, the issue where Mr. Knight fights an entire building’s worth of henchmen. So much fun while also being rather thought-provoking and mystical. Not sure if I should continue onto the two subsequent volumes by Bunn and Wood, or just skip to the Lemire run which I am really excited for. Either way, this was an immensely satisfying read.

Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow TPB (4)

    - I liked this, maybe not as much as I expected to, but it was still superb. Moore is definitely one of the best and this is another success. I probably still prefer his Watchmen and Killing Joke, but the stories here were still quite good. A great examination of the character of Superman.

Wolverine: Old Man Logan TPB (8)

    - What a fantastic book. I’ve heard some complaints about Millar’s stories but I absolutely loved this. Dark, emotive and introspective while also being really creative and suspenseful. Lots of great moments in this excellent self-contained story. Best read of the month for me.

Batman & Robin #1-16, Batman #700-702, Batman: The Return, The Return of Bruce Wayne #1-6: The middle of Morrison's Batman run has a solid dynamic with the Dick Grayson Batman and Damian Wayne Robin, a bevy of excellent artists, and a mini-series that nicely reimagines Batman in different settings prior to his ass-kicking return.

Vault of Horror #1-3: Clever Edgar Allan Poe adaptations by the great Richard Corben.

100 Bullets #20-30: A series of shorter stories building the mythology of the Minutemen. The highlight is a new take on the Kennedy assassination and iconic figures of the 1950s.

Detective Comics #29-44, World's Fair Comics #2, (Batman stories) Batman #1-2:
(Counting this as 10 issues) The early Golden Age Batman stories are ridiculous but fun.

Sgt. Fury #6-13: Fun silver age war comics. Great dynamic with Nick Fury and company.

Immortal Hulk #1-8: A dark, new take on the Hulk that keeps some classic elements (Banner as a fugitive on the run afraid of what he'll transform into) and makes Alpha Flight's Sasquatch a key figure. Clever storytelling with beautiful art by Bennet.

    Violencia & Other Deadly Amusements:
Creepy, mostly fun stuff in Richard Sala's unique style. (Counting this as 6 issues)

Fantastic Four #21/ Tales to Astonish #78/ Strange Tales #135-153 (Nick Fury Stories):
The pre-Steranko SHIELD stories set up some major parts of Marvel mythology, with decent spy stories and camaraderie between Nick and his Howling Commandos buddies in a new setting. It's Lee/ Kirby aping James Bond, so it's not their best but it's fun. (Counting this as 11 issues)

Strange Tales #130-141 (Doctor Strange Stories):
The Eternity saga may be the highlight of Lee/ Ditko's run with some of Strange's greatest challenges, and Ditko's greatest sequences. (Counting this as 6 issues)

    Avengers X-Sanction #1-4:
Mindless fighting, but it does get to a satisfying set-up to the next big event.

Dragon Ball: That Time I Got Reincarnated As Yamcha:
Fun love letter to manga fandom and the more obscure elements of Dragon Ball as a kid gets reincarnated as one of the more forgotten characters of the series. (Counting this as 4 issues)

    Study in Emerald:

(Counting as 4 Issues) Beautifully illustrated adaptation of Gaiman's Sherlock Holmes/ Lovecraft mash-up. Conveys the world well, and sets up the big reveals nicely. Kind of expensive for the page count.

Total So Far: 1584 Issues, 42 from the Golden Age, 20 from the 1950s, 100 from the 1960s complete, 100 from the 1970s complete, 100 from the 1980s, 100 from the 1990s complete, 100 from the 2000s complete, 100 from the 2010s complete

Best of the batch: I'll probably go with the Eternity saga. It's got some excellent sequences, and raises the scope of Strange's adventures. It may also have Ditko's finest art, which pains me to say as a Spider-Man fan.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

    Update:

Abe Sapien: Dark & Terrible HC v1 (15) - Follows Abe's exploits after he leaves the BPRD, searching for answers to his role in the changing world.

Detective Comics: Rebirth HC v3 (12) - A bit of dip in quality from the previous collections. I didn't care for Anarchy or the Victims Syndicate plot much at all

Wonder Woman: Rebirth HC v2 (12) - I thought Rucka ended his most recent work on WW pretty well. One of, if not my favorite, of the Rebirth offerings.

The Damned TP v1 (5) - An early Bunn/Hurt collaboration that recently got turned into an ongoing. Premise follows a cursed man mixed up in a criminal underworld headed by demons.

Briggs Land TP v1 (6) - I'm always looking for something different in comics, and this was an interesting choice. A wife attempts to take the reigns of her husbands sucessionist compound while he's in prison, all while under the watchful eye of the feds

Curse Words TP v1 (5) - There's something to be said for a series that doesn't take itself too seriously, though there wasn't enough there for me to continue personally

Motor Crush TP v1 (5) - Didn't much care for this about half the way through, but some interesting developments toward the end may cause me to follow this up with v2

Moonshine TP v2 (6) - Not a bad follow up to the first volume

Redlands TP v1 (6) - Follows a coven of witches in small FL town they control, with an interconnecting story spanning decades. So far, so good.

    New Readings:

.Amazing Spider-Man.David Michlinie and Tod McFarlane Omnibus: 35
    (Collects Amazing Spider-Man:296-329.)

    .Iron Man.Demon in the Bottle.Tpb.:9
    (Collects Iron-Man:120-128)

    Total for 2018 so far:1000.

And with those two books i reached the 1000 books in 2018.
The Amazing Spider-Man are great, the David Michelinie is easily one of the best five writers of Spider-Man stories and this Omnibus had many of these good stories collected. And i would say Amazing Spider-Man was one of the best comic books of the late 80s and early 90´s as well.

The Iron Man TPB have stories by David Michelinie. And it have nine stories of the great David Michelinie run in Iron Man.Another great read.

I would definitely encourage you to keep going with both Motor Crush and Curse Words

Thanks! You're right about the great reads, I really enjoyed most of what I read. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but I blame it on the traveling I was doing. Lots of downtime. I haven't read nearly as much this month.

I really enjoyed Oblivion Song & The Walking Dead, which made up the bulk of my reading. Daredevil's still going strong too! Also really enjoyed Green Lantern #1 & Hawkman #6, the art and writing for both are great.
