Default Do you see Tyler Durden as a hero?

I mean do you consider him to be a hero with his "I don't give a **** attitude" towards society and what to be told to do when he represents freedom, maleness and all that even being free minded? or do you consider him an egotistical monster?

He was the unbridaled ego. And yes a villain.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

The second book pretty much corners him as a villain that would make Satan himself weep.

The book ... he's an agent of chaos and pretty malevolent till the end where he's straight up evil.

    Never seen the movie.

Villain, but I don't think he can even honestly conceive of that he is...

    - "Hero"
    - "Villain"
    - "Other"

But do you think his "i don't give a **** attitude" is cool like some people say even with his intelligence and being free minded from society even having a job of his own without having to work for someone is cool as well especially the idea of "think for yourself and be don't told what others tell you" philosophy and "don't be materialistic"?

But later on he is such a terrorist, liar, contradictory, and personifies everything we shouldn't want to be and was created from pent up rage and faustrations? especially when he was blowing up credit card buildings to have everyone "free of debt" was a total bullshit idea eh when he was hurting other people even that blonde guy being hurt by him was no accident?

But do you see FC as a coming of age story as the narrator loved his material possessions as he was like a kid, Tyler represented teen angst/rebeliion and juvenile deliquency in aspects and that at the end once the narrator realized Tyler is a monster and finally learned to grow up when he got rid of him to outgrow him and move on with his life to chose the life he want to be and become a mature person? is that the point of the movie right? the point is "grow up and take responsibility for your life" right?

Tyler isn't cool. Tyler is a complete monster. He sounds cool. He looks cool. You might think he acts cool, until you see what's going on underneath. Tyler represents every bad instinct, every hurtful thought, every violent impulse. His "cool" is a sound byte meant to distract you from the awful things he means to do for no better reason than because he can. He's a sociopath. Ego unleashed.

And no, I don't think Tyler represents teen rebellion or delinquency. I think he represents selfishness, and violence. He's anger and chaos and F--k the world. He isn't about lashing out at authority, or trying to forge your own identity. He's about destructively acting out at everything you've labelled as hurtful, at everything that makes you a "victim", just so that you don't have to take real responsibility. Tyler isn't working from home because he's responsible, he's working from home because he's a terrorist bomber. Tyler isn't anti-materialistic because it's hip, or because he cares about workers or consumers, he's anti-materialistic because it justifies him blowing **** up. Tyler has no interest in you "thinking for yourself", he just wants to be the one telling you how to think. He's not anti-authoritarian, he's jealous that he's not the authority.

Tyler is literally the worst of modern humanity, rolled up in the grizzled, media fed vision of what a man "should" look like.

This is also the point. If Tyler looked like Randy Quaid?

    Whole different film.

I'm just saying it's terrible how some people glorify such a horrible Mr Hyde like person when he was nothing more than a savage untamable wild animal and do you agree the film at the end's message is "grow up and become a mature individual with a balance" even "think for yourself and not what others tell you to do" and that's what the narrator became once he outgrew Tyler and had to get rid of him to move on with his life? and you don't think the film caused some juvenile deliquency like this one 16 year old in seattle who tried to blow up a Starbucks because he is a fan of the movie.

You finally glad the narrator grew up at the end as he outgrew Tyler and got rid of him to move on with his life?

The narrator doesn't outgrow Tyler, he becomes Tyler. So no.

Well he did learn to grow up once he realizes his other personality is extremely dangerous and got rid of him once and for all then he moved on to take responsiblity of his life.

Yes, there are some people that do consider Tyler or characters like him to be cool and role models. These people don't get the point of the book or movie.

Tyler is not cool or a hero. He's a despicable garbage being.

Indeed and is the message of the film is that the narrator grew up and learned to have a balance to move on with his life and he got rid of him?
