Default 80th anniversary ideas for 2018

    It's almost here.

    The 80th Anniversary of Superman.

1938 - 2018: the completion of 8 full decades of continuous publication for this fictional character.

    So how are we celebrating?

Let's get the obvious out of the way first.

ACTION COMICS #1000. That is the crown jewel of this celebration of 80 years since Superman's debut. This is a given, and is already being discussed in multiple threads elsewhere on the CBR forums.

Also, KRYPTON the television show will debut on SyFy. The trailer is interesting, although yet another Superverse show without Superman is kinda disappointing, at least at the current time.

So beyond those two known projects in 2018, what else could / should done in celebration of Clark 's 80th birthday?

Let's see how many ideas we can come up with. They have to be reasonable in scope (nothing that further reboots the mainline comic books outside of the conclusions to DOOMSDAY CLOCK and REBIRTH itself).

Let's try for 80 new ideas in 2018 (ok, technically 78 new ideas since we are counting AC1K and KRYPTON).

    I'll start:

    1. SUPERMAN: A VISUAL HISTORY by Dk Publishing. A year-by-year (per page) analysis of Superman's comic book history.

Just google BATMAN: A VISUAL HISTORY. That book celebrated Bruce's 75th in 2014. I want one just like that dedicated to Clark in 2018.

Are we thinking of something which can be feasibly done within 2018?

If not my idea is of a Superman game. Base the game on the Golden Age version of Superman.

It would be an awesome game. Smashing cars, jumping around one eighth of a mile (its pretty good too), intimidating thugs and exposing corrupt politicians/businessmen, saving lives of people being kidnapped. There is so much that can be done with this setting. If need be put in some super villains too. It would be most enjoyable as a game because of the frantic nature of the source material itself.

    - Superman: Family, a full-length graphic novel starring every semi-important character to ever wear the S, showing all the different ways the symbol can inspire. Some characters may just be here for the story, while others would be re-introduced into canon.

-An animated New Super-Man television series or movie.

LOIS LANE #1 solo ongoing title, set in the DCU proper, and under the Superverse editorial, with a top - notch creative team behind it (preferably at least one talented female on the team).

Her life, her point of view as The World's Greatest Journalist, as well as Superman's wife and Superboy's mother. She gets the Daily Planet's staff to work with as well, from Perry White to Steve Lombard and Ron Troupe, also deals with Cat Grant. Has her own rogues as well, i.e. Prankster makes way more sense as her enemy than strictly Clark's alone.

    It's Lois ' 80th anniversary as well in 2018, don't forget.

Didn't superman show up in the supergirl tv show a few times? Also you failed to mention we are getting a 2 part death of superman animated adaption next year for the 80th anniversary.

Also a Lois Lone ongoing would be great. Just make sure it's a good creative team.

Superman finds the Powerstone and "remembers" all his different incarnations. From the GA to the TV shows to the movies to all the various reboots in the comics. Each person in the Superman mythos touches it and "remembers" theirs as well. Lois, Lana, Luthor, Jimmy, Perry, Supergirl, etc. Make it sort of like FTMWHE where he's got a hold of it and nobody can pry it off of him. Everytime someone tries, they "remember" their old histories as well. So Batman touches it and relives all the old Worlds Finest comics from the fifties and sixties. The story ends with him ending up on Earth Prime and seeing all these different versions for himself. When he gets back home, he doesn't know what to make of all that he's learned. Just that somewhere out there, there are numerous incarnations of himself.

Earth-One Superman awakes from the clutches of the Black Mercy revealing that everything from 1986 to 2017 has been an elaborate dream wherein he lived out numerous differing incarnations of himself. This new attack was employed via a join attack by Lex Luthor, Mongul, and Brainiac. With his old frenemy Mr. Mxyzptlk breaking him free.

Yep. And other than his last appearance, he was actually pretty good as both Clark Kent and Superman. Very reminiscent of the Reeves Superman.

Admittedly I've only watched 6 or 7 episodes of Supergirl in total, but Superman's presence in the episode he appeared in alone made it easily my favorite episode. He was perfect.

Ideal situations that aren't going to happen:

Grant Morrison doing a sequel to All-Star Superman.
A new animated series, using the Silver/Bronze age as its primary source of inspiration and taking bits and pieces from other eras where needed.
New ongoings for Lois and Jimmy that channel the absurdity of the Silver Age titles but with modern spins (Lois channeling her craziness into being an awesome reporter instead of trying to trick Superman into marrying her, for example).
