Frankly, I very much doubt it'll be in my lifetime. No, I don't expect or want to live even that long.

But if I were living that long, I would accept them eventually. Key word: eventually. I wouldn't want one until they've been a thing for a decade or so.

driverless cars - hmmm, its being tested in long haul trucking and apparently working well in the test phase, but there is so much that happens on a street or road

No it wasn't. In a reboot you relaunch the comic from scratch. Nothing in the past happened unless you specifically say it did.
