I think I will simply base my design in purple, so I will look for Disney characters regarding to this. Only classic (and with classic I mean <1980) Disney animation characters, I think it's funnier that way.

Just out of curiosity and probably naivete am I permitted to do Videogame characters such as Kingdom Hearts?
What about Studio Ghibli, since that is a gray area due to dubbing and distribution by Buena Vista which is Disney owned?

Also hopefully I have enough time to make a Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, the Rescuers, and The Great Mouse Detective Tribute. I assume Original Disney shows and movies are also up for grabs.

Also, Rocky Horror, Predator, Big Trouble in Little China, The Princess Bride, Die Hard, The X-Files, Fight Club, Digimon, Moulin Rouge, Plante of the Apes movies and the list goes on...

I'm thinking R.E.B.'s already answered this by saying: "The possibilities are open and endless." :-)

Correct, any properties owned by Disney (old & new) can be used for inspiration. And yes, Studio Ghibli can be used also.
