It was maybe a little exciting when teen Jean first came on the scene, because after Hope, this was the closest thing Marvel was going to give as far as Jean Grey goes. But the real deal is back now. Teen Jean was a stand in, but like the Phoenix said, her time is done. And yet she lingers...here. Why? Send them all back! They're redundant and unnecessary.
Everyone's kind of a bitch when written by Hopeless.
That’s probably why Ghost Jean was good. I loved the adventures of Jeena Dunham too.
His ANXM sucked yeah, but then the O5 are sort of an albatross. Bunn’s honestly not doing much better with them in Blue. The ensemble team Hopeless gathered to help Jeen was great though (Jean, Emma, Hope, Quire, Cuckoos) and would’ve made for an infinitely superior Red lineup and approach.
that lineup has little to no diversity. All characters with similar power sets connected to the Phoenix. Their histories and connections are also very intertwined. Red offers many ways to mix things up bc it is so different that Taylor has to think outside the box with this roster
It’s a team of (mostly) psychics, sort of a novel concept and would be ripe for exploration. Also there’s more to diversity than base power set, and even within there’s plenty of room for disctiction. We’ve seen that before on teams with multiple psychics: Xavier/Jean/Emma or Rachel/Psylocke/Monet for example. There’s a ton of interest with the personalities and power dynamics in that lineup though.
Taylor’s team by comparison is a mismatched hodgepodge with no real connecting thread or narrative rationalization. It’s an embarrassing mess that’s only real value is emphasizing the old joke than Jean’s terribad at picking teams.

Emma and the 3 clones have the same exact powers we. Quentin and Jean ha e the same powers. Hope has the powers of those around her. It’s not about having primarily psychics. It’s aboit only having psychics. New and th female team were more diverse by th simple fact that they had other power groups represented in addition to the psychic characters. They fit as a supporting roster for a solo series as we saw but seem limiting for an ensemble beyond a mini
The fact that there isn’t an obvious link among this team is what makes them interesting. I can’t wait to see Jean form new relationships and what the dynamics will be
She has as much connection to Gambit as she does Kurt. Arguably more so

Emma and Cuckoos aren’t identical power wise and neither are Jean and Quentin really. That’s sort of the point, there’s variance, there’s specialties, and those inherent differences can be explored when you group psychics the way Morrison, Claremont and whoever else have before in a team dynamic. Those previous teams had the same exact derivative complaints and lazy arguments leveled against them but all drew a compelling constrast with their psychics, which was the most interesting part of their lineups tbh. It’s not even about the other characters, but even if that were an issue it’d be pretty easy for Hopeless to grab some other thematically related non-Psi besides Hope.
Red’s lineup is a conceptual car crash and the first issue preview’s not really inspiring much confidence imo. It’s basically Jean gathering up Storm’s sloppy seconds and Logan’s genetic leftovers. Even Dazzler, Northstar and mindraped Frenzy are better than this.
I suppose but thats not what you initially pitched. Im not familiar with Taylor's writing beyond the first arc of ANW, but I am with Hopeless and he's been a disappointment so Im glad that idea did not come to fruition
And why Gambit, Nightcrawler and Gentle gotta be sloppy seconds? I look forward to seeing Kurt not in Gold, Gambit finally on a main roster again and a New X-men being elevated
