    Default Golden Age Midnight (Dave Clark / orig. Quality Comics) Appreciation Thread 2022

    NOTE - Previous versions of this thread:

    First appearance: Smash Comics #18 (January 1941) <from Quality Comics>

    Though it wouldn't be until Smash Comics #19 (February 1941) that Midnight would rate a mention on the cover.

    I'm surprised DC has rarely used him.

    Would love to see him, the original Crimson Avenger, Zatara and the original Sandman on a team together... in a world with no superpowers...

    As I said a little over a year ago in a different thread,

    Set in +/-1939-1940 (before the U.S. formally entered WWII) and possibly featuring:
    * Batman
    * Crimson Avenger
    * Dr. Mid-Nite
    * Green Arrow
    * Invisible Hood
    * The Jester
    * The King
    * Midnight
    * Phantom Lady
    * Sandman (Wes Dodds)
    * The Whip
    * Wildcat
    * Zatara
    and if it's non-canon, you could always add the Golden Age (no sonic cry) Black Canary (who wasn't introduced until 1947).

    Problem is whether or not that was the (original) Dave Clark version of Midnight or some nameless (and forgettable) 1990 "update".

    By issue #28 (November 1941), Midnight became the main character featured on the cover . . .
    . . . and that lasted until the final issue (cover-dated October 1949)
