Post Civil War for me and other forum members in the Marvel section, Bendis was riding high. It's crazy how popular and influential he was with superhero comics... and I have to say that the criticism he's now met with had been building from even ten years ago with Secret Invasion. He probably had too much influence and with everyone following him, it was way more visible when his ideas didn't play out. And there were many... rough landings, despite his maintained popularity. I think it's pretty fair that some expectations have been substantially lowered about his upcoming work because of what's been done, although I don't think writers have a such thing as a "prime" that they fall out of, so I don't think there's any reason he can't do great stories anymore.
