Natalie Portman hosted SNL last week, and she did a sequel to her infamous rap digital short from 2006. They get to Star Wars (prequels) at around 1:30.

Even in a comedy sketch, it's nice to see the prequels defended for a change.

Star Wars, as some other franchises like Harry Potter for example (very, very much so in the case of HP), is for a lot of people some kind of warm security blanket. It's that loved place they go when the real world is a bit too rough or sad.
Touchy they can get indeed about that.
I've been pretty ambivalent when it comes to the Disney Star Wars movies. In fact, I haven't even seen 'The Last Jedi' yet. I just can't get enthusiastic about them.
The idea that they have become 'whipping boys' at the expense of the prequels beggars belief though. Have the fanboys/detractors bitching about 'The Last Jedi' ever even seen the prequels?
Plot specifics and pet peeves aside, there is absolutely no way that the Disney films even get close to the prequels in terms of bad film making. Nostalgia can be dangerous sometimes.
Some fans just like to hate, and what they universally hate the most is whatever is the latest new thing that deviates from their childhood memories.
I think "Rogue One" has been pretty well received by fans....but then again it doesn't feature any beloved characters with the exception of Vader (and did pretty good by him). Granted, it's had some criticisms-The CG Tarkin and Leia, the Death Star's flaw being intentional (although contrary to some opinion, it's not the actual exhaust port but the reactor itself) etc....and of course some of the old EU fans not happy that it replaced Kyle Katarn as the Death Star plan thief (There's actually about a thousand different versions of the theft in the EU apart from Katarn's; also, Rogue One is partially based on a pitch for the Lucas-run TV show which never really materialized, so Lucas was probably going to tell his own version anyway) and of course is the most nostalgia-friendly of the films with all the OT tech.
Force Awakens of course had it's "It's just a copy of the original!" criticisms, and Last Jedi of course has had drama for various reasons too.
