Even in a comedy sketch, it's nice to see the prequels defended for a change.

Star Wars, as some other franchises like Harry Potter for example (very, very much so in the case of HP), is for a lot of people some kind of warm security blanket. It's that loved place they go when the real world is a bit too rough or sad.
Touchy they can get indeed about that.
I've been pretty ambivalent when it comes to the Disney Star Wars movies. In fact, I haven't even seen 'The Last Jedi' yet. I just can't get enthusiastic about them.
The idea that they have become 'whipping boys' at the expense of the prequels beggars belief though. Have the fanboys/detractors bitching about 'The Last Jedi' ever even seen the prequels?
Plot specifics and pet peeves aside, there is absolutely no way that the Disney films even get close to the prequels in terms of bad film making. Nostalgia can be dangerous sometimes.
