Is that a thing with the GL fandom; if you like one you aren't allowed to expressed interest with the others? Despite John being my entry to GL it didn't stop me from reading GL: New Guardians (had no idea who Kyle was) and Green Lanterns (because I was interested with the new guys and the other book kinda implies you're only in it for Hal Jordan).

These characters all have dedicated fans, but there are limits to available resources for spotlighting each one.

Uhh FYI, fans were asking for a female Earth Lantern for years now. Which is probably why Jessica was met with more positive fanfare than Simon.
Done with DC. Can't handle the constant whiplash! Time to go on a hiatus!

I don't know, I love Jessica Cruz as Green Lantern. She just needs a little more time to grow.

I don't think DC has plans for the GL Franchise right now.

They'll probably hold out any definitive/iconic course until the movie thing gets really sorted out (I don't think it is, at this point) and when it is, try to follow that as a general guideline. So far, they were able to keep Green Lanterns above the cancellation threshold and made GLC even more viable by putting "Hal Jordan" on the title (¬¬).

GLC movie is slated for 2020, when we will probably get some sort of sequence to JL. Now, JL is entering into one of these weird periods we know that's not supposed to last. But having a "the great guys RETURN" in time for the movie is something DC kinda likes to do. Same can be applied to GL.

DC is gonna stall for about 2 years, and that's it. Seems like a lot, but in comics time currently 2 years is actually nothing, it's like 3or four story arcs.

To do spoiler tags, use [ spoil ] at the start of the sentence and [ /spoil ] at the end, without the spaces. You're welcome!

I was a GL franchise fan, but, with the multi-coloured lanterns and, now, with so many Earth lanterns, I've lost interest. Give me back the simple stuff - Hal Jordan, maybe a few more, and just the Oans and one coloured lantern.

Agreed, however, if Steve Englehart was able to juggle SEVEN different GLs in the post-Crisis era without any problems, I don't see why a good creator can't juggle SIX.

As others have said, the main problem, it seems to me, stems from the fact that the creative energy of the GL franchise has never recovered from the one-two punch of the movie flopping and Johns ending his run. For better or worse, Johns was a tireless workhorse coming up with new concepts and characters while simultaneously reinventing old ideas into something exciting.

What has been done since Johns left? The Durlans framed the Corps. Mogo became the new Oa. Hal got a really crappy new costume. Guy briefly experimented with a ridiculous porn-stach that made his bowl-cut look stylish, Kyle got super-Catholic for about a minute and John became leader of the Corps.

Compare that with the onslaught of new ideas and characters the GL franchise produced during the Johns/Tomasi era, it's no wonder that fans are feeling unsatisfied.

Granted, every franchise goes through this period of stagnation and creative rut for a time. I can't even remember what was going on with Aquaman following Peter David's run. Superman's certainly had his low points. The pre-Morrison Batman was just awful, as was the post-Johns JSA. The post-Waid/Johns era of The Flash was truly abysmal. Wasn't Bart aged up and made The Flash for a few minutes there? I think it was so awful I scrubbed it from my memory.

I suppose it could be worse, we could be in the same boat as Young Justice, Justice Society and Legion of the Superheroes fans

At least we still get four generally well-done GL comics a month, even if they aren't particularly memorable. They are at least fun to read. I am looking forward to seeing how the Zod vs. the GLCorps turns out, but that is hardly based upon character progression. It's just mindless spectacle. There's no expansion or exploration of the ideas surrounding Green Lantern being played with. Feels like empty calories.

Exactly right. And for all the Green Lantern comics that Johns sold, he is responsible for that. The roof didn't cave in because he left. He left just before it caved in because he knew it was about to happen.

All this is true. I don't know what else to add here except that the movie was like 8 years ago. If DC is still using that as an excuse then they should all invest in glass stomachs. With their heads up their asses all the time, they may as well see where they're going.

GL is definitely in a rut, but it's in that borderline rut zone. It's not quite tanking but not quite selling either. Maybe they'll shake it up with JL but I'm thinking they keep on status quo for another year or two just to have those predicable monthly sales figures to rely on. They're not great, but you know where they'll be. For all they know JL could floparoony.

I think if nothing changes after JL, I'm going to drop this book and wait for a new creative team.

He wasn't the only one who left either. All 4 books got new creative teams at the same time. Was it rats off a sinking ship or did DC see what was coming and try to be proactive? It obviously (IMO) made things worse, so maybe that's why they haven't cleaned house yet.

They had female lanterns up the azz. All over the place. Even an Earth one! (Ah Jade... DC can erase you from existence in the comics but not from my heart) Sure she had green skin, but I don't judge people by their skin color.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of Jessica and her staying power. She's getting a push from DC so I'm not sure how much of the hype is manufactured and how much is real. But when comparing her to Kyle (the last new GL with staying power), he only had 1 book and 1 writer throughout so things were fairly consistent. Jessica has had several writers so far who have several different characterizations (WTF with the Flash flirting). It's tough to latch on to that. I personally think she hasn't found her writer yet. Once that happens, then we'll see.

AND Batman now too. Hopefully Selina never finds out. Our boy can be stuck for 37 years in some interdimensional hell hole with Wonder Woman and not get tempted, but he can't resist Jessica apparently. Damn.
