DC hasn't tried to make it work, their objective has been to just tease it. They know its a popular ship, and every writer that comes on both character wants to say something about it, but no one has wanted to really commit them to it or anything.

DC 'ship teasing' approach to this ship is just dc cheap way to make it work. It clearly shows how bad they are handling it.
Reading through Percy interview in newsarama, it is very clear the batman editors are out of touch with the fandom. He talks as though faking out on the dick and babs ship on issue 45 would be so exciting to fans , like they have never done that before like '20 times' in the last 8 years. Going by his direction on nightwing its very clear his target demograph are the 90s fandom, not the new ones. That would be bad on sales.

This ship may once have been very popular 10 years ago, it pretty obvious it isn't today. Pointless Ship teases and silly drama killed the hype for this ship long ago.

Yeah that's how bad this has gotten. The batman editors push the concept of an endgame to a story that would never end. We will never see the so called endgame of Dick and babs in continuity because there will never be an end to the batman franchise. .
So the question 'how do you tell good stories with a couple that has been advertised they would be together no matter what,' you can't.

All we got so far is 12 years of ship teasing and bad drama and during this time DC in genenal started shipping Barbara with Bruce, Tim and Jason. Meanwhile, Dick and Kory got even more popular and grew a massive fandom.

Nightwing is now just stalk with this dead ship.. it ruins the potential for better relationships for Dick.

Its not though, DC's ship teasing approach actually has them continually coming up with ways to make it not work. They know it gets a reaction from both fan bases, so they tease it so they can try to milk that, but they haven't tried to make it actually work since Dixon's days.

babs also locks nightwing into just being "Adult Robin", just look at the new interview batgirl and scarecrow? if I want to read about them I'd read batman. this is why DC and WB wouldn't invest in nightwing outside of titans because everything nightwing beings to the table already belongs to batman. dick needs more of his own things.

Dick was never stuck in the bat mythos, he has the history to prove it. that history today is what is giving him the push in media.
it s Barbara that is tried down to the bat mythos and would never become more than a sidekick and she continues to bring Dick down with her.

Yeah Percy is already talking about putting them together and if they don’t it should be the nail in the coffin, if they do get together and then marriage is pushed I won’t be mad but lose all interest in Nightwing comic books because I will now know his story will always be secondary and influenced by a trickle down Bat heirchy that treats him as a stand in Batman and since Bruce can’t get married Dick will. If Dick and Babs had been together prior to BatCat I would judge it as something the Bat Office See as integral for the characters but this is coming off the heels of the X Marriage and Bat Marriage. Rogue and Gambit have been together closer than DickBabs and are equal with Kitty/Colosuss. DickBabs would have no way as being seen as a direct result of the BatCat fiasco and essentially be a Tie-In Marriage. DickBabs are both not ready to settle down and I am tired of relationships dominating the conversation.

With Rogue and Gambit have a history of being pretty fragile, so when that happens it'd be expected of them.

Dick and Babs I'd be willing to root for. There's no real reason it doesn't work other than Didio not being a fan of it.
