Is this the Old Republic trilogy they've been shopping around?

While Benioff and Weiss would seem to be prime candidates to create a live-action Star Wars TV series given their success in building HBO's Emmy-winning genre hit Game of Thrones, [Disney CEO Bob] Iger used his time with investors Tuesday to explain why they'd be fronting a new trilogy for Disney's film unit.

"Their interest was in creating a series of films that are Star Wars-based and we've actually been talking to them for a long time," Iger said. "To my knowledge they didn’t express interest in creating a series. They have an idea for a number of films and at some later date I'm sure we'll disclose to all of you just what those are. They are focused on a point in time in the Star Wars mythology and taking it from there."

Love the move, assuming it doesn't result in R-rated films.

Dan & Dave are hit or miss on adaptation. Game of Thrones worked because GRRM didn't let them change anything.

When Dave wrote X-Men, we got this:

Disney's been shopping around and looking for somebody to write some Old Republic stuff, be it TV shows or movies.

Johnson and Disney were quick to say it wasn't Rian's new trilogy.

    Maybe this is it?

Is there a link towards that somewhere?

https://mashable.com/2018/02/07/star.../#PG1Z4NgEJOqU <--- this one links to the quote about Rian's NOT being set during the Old Republic.

    I have read them.

There are not any actual things there that even vaguely hint to any time period.

There certainly is nothing there about Lucasfilm actively shopping an ancient times trilogy around.

Like the Kenobi film, I think it's kind of more wishful thinking by some fans, when there hasn't been any real official announcement. The Knights of the Old Republic games (and to a lesser degree the MMO) were very popular, and there's sort of been a wish for a "Braveheart" style Jedi vs. Sith battle since the prequels (Just look at some of the fan trailers at the time, which actually used BH footage with lightsabers drawn in!). Although there have been rumors, at least when Lucas was in charge, of an "episode Zero" for a while; apparently Lucas originally thought it might have been a good episode I (With the later two prequels focusing on the Obi-wan/Anakin story) and there were rumors a few years back before the Disney sale.

I think these fans are forgetting that any Lucasfilm movie set in that era is going to utterly ignore the 'continuity' of that era and will just pave over it with all-new official canon.

Yeah, it pretty much already has; last episodes of Clone Wars had Yoda got to the Sith homeworld which had a different name ("Moriband") than Korriban used in previous Old Republic stuff, as well as a largely different look (More "Vaderesque") for Darth Bane.

I'm pretty sure the Malachor seen in Rebels and the Marvel comics is also pretty similar from the Knights of the Old Republic version too. Although the "Thousand year darkness" (The first schism between the light and dark side which led to the creation of both orders) is still canon and mentioned a few times here and there...

Seconded. That's not what this franchise is about.

Yep. While some elements have been grandfathered over, it's a clean slate, so all the Old Republic material set so far isn't going to be followed (which is a good thing, IMHO).
