Default Comic Book Vending Machines are back.

Looks like someone is bringing back comic book vending machines. (they used to have them in the 70s and 80s) Japan has some manga vending machines as well. If this takes off we might get new comic readers and maybe a return of newsstand type books in stores and gas stations.

First the old one then a manga machine then the new one.

Wow! I remember seeing these at an Arlen's store back in the '60's! I never saw them after that, though. I think comic shops started sprouting up about that time, if I'm not mistaken. Hope this doesn't hurt THEM at all.

The only negative thing I foresee is that the corners of the comic get damaged once it drops to the slot.

I don't think non comic collectors would be worried about that.

First time I ever seen one, was January first, 1968. Got iron man and subby 1, and captain America 100 out of it. They were around I think up to the summer of 1971, when prices and sizes went up to 20 25 cents . I'm sure it cost plenty to reconfigure them to go from 12 cents to 15 cents, and figured the cost for doing it again was to high. my guess on that.. These machines forced one to buy books one didn't want, to get the one a book or two under. So, they forced one to try a title they then came to like. Some where out there, in some old warehouse, has to be several of these old machines, filled with mint 1968-1971 comics These machines also done away with kids reading the books on the stands, something the store owners frowned upon greatly.

I'd really like to know the sales, how they're doing and if they're moving comics that way or not!

I was taken ice hockey rinks a lot when I was younger and mostly entertained myself with their little arcades. If they had these comic book vending machines back then, I'm pretty sure I would've become a comic fan a lot sooner.
