Default Maximus Decimus Meridius (Gladiator) Vs Thor Odinson (MCU)

Russell Crowe's Maximus Decimus Meridius will be going up against Chris Hemsworth's Thor Odinson.

The setting is Sakaar, as part of the Grandmaster's gladiatorial Contest of Champions.

Each man gets to pick their weapons of choice from the armoury - just like Thor was doing in that scene with Korg ("Oh my god... the hammer pulled you off?!").

Oh and Thor has obviously been made mortal for this fight, like he was in his first solo movie. I'm not a complete idiot.

IIRC Thor was still tossing human guards around pretty easily? So in strength he should still be superior. How long does Thors-worth get to prepare for the match? Because he sure as hell has to re-think how he's going to fight with human stats.

Eh, depowered Thor was still strong enough and skilled enough to walk through "the best men on the planet" when strolling to Mjolnir in Thor 1. He was only made to work slightly against the dude as big as he was, fighting in the mud, after already having trounced a dozen or more other "elite" agents who were armed and armored. He's significantly bigger, stronger, shows roughly equal or better skill (mostly in later films, sure) and doesn't seem to suffer a speed deficit either. Oh, and his soak is pretty silly, not getting insta-pulped by a Destroyer punch while mortal.

Wasnt a destroyer punch. It was a destroyer slap.

But ye he does have decent durability.
Considering he showed decent skills with weapons vs hulk in thor 3 and he has superior stats to maximus, id say hed beat him.

In h2h he absolutely destroys Maximus, no contest there. Weapon vs weapon, will be close.

I wouldn't call them elite soldiers as they completely featless.

Not sure how much weight if any a writer's intention is given, but Coulson did describe them as having some of the best training in the world and attributed their poor showing to Thor's own skill.

Not much without feats to back it up.

OK, so the agents were featless. by that logic, so were most of the guys Maximus killed.

I'm inclined to say Maximus's sword skills looked more impressive than anything mortal Thor had to deal with, and durability won't mean jack to a good stab wound. Max wins more often than not, given these are the conditions he excels in.
