I'm loving the holistic approaches to revamping Mal that includes his martial skills, the Guardian, etc.

Johns rebooted Vibe in the DCnU to be able to access other dimensions and Earths, but I think Mal could also go down that path with his musicality and Morrison's ideas of harmonics in Multiversity. That might be something where his "horn" (however that gets developed - mystical or scientific) artifact, instrument, gadget, etc. comes into play.

Just thinking out loud...not sure how that'd play into his day-to-day fighting evil on Prime Earth (which he can do in his Guardian persona and weaponry), but something to consider.

That seems to be the theme with Mal: not sure what to do with him.
