Default Harry, Ron & Hermoine in LotR

The fellowship of the ring is formed and instead of Legolas, Gimli and Boromir; the group receives Harry Potter, Ron and Hermoine. How does this altered group go in their quest?

Movie versions. The HP wizards only have their wands. They can't apparate, have no brooms and no time turners.

Just being in middle-earth and using magic might be enough to corrupt them.

They do not have the physical fitness for the trek to the volcano. Even the hobbits were physically tough. They poop out fairly early. As far as the story line, without Boromir making a move on Frodo, the group continues on its way. That takes Merry and Pippin from their crucial roles in events outside of the trek. Some crucial battles are lost as in the fight with the Witch-king of the Nazgul.

Their magical firepower is probably not enough to sweep Sauron's forces away or counter Saruman. The Balrog would probably eat them.

Pretty sure this counts as child abuse.

To be really fair here, though, they could probably just cast some shield charms to enable them to cross mountains elsewhere and ignore Moria entirely.

Or just use Imperious or something on the Balrog.

Or use one of their destruction charms on the bridge, causing the Balrog to howl at them from the other side of it while they stroll away.

What I'm saying is that Moria is unlikely to be their downfall.

And they can OBVIOUSLY keep themselves from being found each an every night with the same group of shielding spells Harry and Hermione were casting when they were on the run in Deathly Hallows. The Orc army can run around them for hours every night, and will never find them at all.

They were adults in the last movie, right? I know in the books it was a minor plot point that Harry would be considered an adult.

There is no way this doesn't end with them killing each other over the One Ring.

They can literally teleport aside from all the other magic that should render fitness irrelevant. It's actually kinda of a thing in the series with some of the more powerful wizards roughly 100 year old wizards and a stay at home mother of 7

    That's not how patronouses work

Or just use Imperious or something on the Balrog.
It won't work on a Balrog even if any of them were particularly adept at casting it (which they specifically aren't)

OP says no teleportation. They have to hike it. Do they wear their robes or do they come with some mountain gear?

Oh right didn't see that. They wear normal clothes for these sort of things. And as noted they can just render themselves "invisible " for all intents and purposes as far as shorter treks go which anyway probably doesn't matter since the hobbits themselves were not as fast or durable as the other races. They also have a bunch of other advantages like carving a path through the snow or moving rocks and barriers out of the way or levitating stuff over smaller hills and whatnot

I recall the book versions spending months in the wilderness. Did that not happen in the movies?

I was going to point out that the Potterverse has an entire school of magic devoted to shielding the mind, but only. Harry was specifically trained in it AFAIK and I don't think he was very good it. That said, given time to study and books to study for it, there's little doubt in my mind Hermione could learn said school or otherwise come up with something to insulate the ring. Extra dimensional storage space, for example. But the kids pretty nerfed here.

That being said, if they do succumb to the ring, they should rather easily be able to murder the Fellowship sans Gandalf rather trivially, and I'm not even sure if Gandalf can take them. HP magic is stupid versatile.
