Default Music in Films and TV

I noticed that there was no thread that specifically deals with music. (If there is one, moderators may merge it. I could not find any).

Feel free to discuss anything related to music as long as it is in connection with films or tv series.

Let me start with something. What are your favorite themes in films? And if possible rank them.

I will take some time to make my list. There's so many of 'em! So, let me start with one piece of music which i adore. I love the use of music in 2001: A Space Odyssey. In my opinion that's one fantastic use of music in film. I can watch the space docking sequence to Blue Danube over and over again.

THIS THREAD IS FANTASTIC!!!! I am a HUGE film/tv score nerd. I am a music educator and am currently developing a middle school general music curriculum that is based in film music for my masters thesis. Students will learn the history, process, and about modern day film/tv music. At the end they will score a one minute scene in GarageBand as a final project. So this thread is right up my alley!

    My top five scores:
    1. The Rocketeer by James Horner
    2. Back To The Future by Alan Silvestri
    3. Independence Day by David Arnold
    4. Raiders of The Lost Ark by John Williams
    5. Batman (89) by Danny Elfman

Honorable mentions: Gremlins by Jerry Goldsmith, Star Trek by Michael Giacchino, Prince of Egypt by Hans Zimmer

    This was tough!
    My top ten composers:
1/2 James Horner & Michael Giacchino. They flip flop constantly depending on who I am listening to at the moment.
    3. John Williams
    4. Alan Silvestri
    5. Bear McCreary
    6. Jerry Goldsmith
    7. Danny Elfman
    8. Brian Tyler
    9. Shirley Walker
    10. Hans Zimmer

Honorable mentions: Alexandre Desplat, Marco Beltrami, David Arnold, John Barry

Glad you liked the thread! I had love for superhero film themes and a few popular ones like Star Wars. But nowadays i am listening to film music on its own. I think especially after watching a couple of Kubrick films. Music can really elevate the film while being awesome to listen on its own. Glad to hear from you. I can now look up some of the themes that you mentioned.

I love Back To The Future and Raiders of The Lost Ark's main themes. Batman by Elfman of course is really cool. I like it a lot. Though my preference is for Hans Zimmer's Dark Knight trilogy, in part because i love the Dark Knight trilogy a lot. I can't remember Independence Day or The Rocketeer. Tbh i haven't watched these films. lol. Maybe i have watched a bit of Independence Day.

Amazing composers too. My favorite would be John Williams. There's just too much. Star Wars, Superman, Harry Potter and so on.

I can't list best or favorite because there are too many.
So I'll just post ones I love that come to mind.

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Though short, I really enjoyed Shirley Walker's theme for Superman.

Hmm, let's see. The osts i remember the most are probably "Titanic" (a long time ago but i did listen to it quite an awful lot), "Your Name" and the main theme from "Willow" sure still works for me.

The only good thing about Maximum Overdrive? The soundtrack.

I may have come across the album long before I was aware the film ever existed...

When i think of Westerns one theme always comes to my mind. 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' composed by Ernio Morricone.

There are other great Western themes. But somehow it is really pervasive in pop culture. I haven't watched the Dollars trilogy. I still know this theme. And quite like it.
