Storm with darker skin and/or brown eyes and/or kinky hair?

I've noticed that there is a subsection of Storm fans who wouldn't mind if Ororo looked more realistically African in terms of skin color, eye color, and hair texture.

I can see the concern: way too often Ororo is drawn with long straight platinum blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and tan skin color. Basically one step away from a Barbie doll.

Many people seem to love this visual interpretation. Many others seem to have issues with this depiction.

So let's discuss as civilly as we can: would you accept an Ororo Munroe who has

- darker skin

- brown eyes

- Afro-textured ("kinky") hair

Or is that too Other for you?

Yes to the darker skin - with colorism being so prevalent in society, darker-skinned black women need more representation.

No to the Brown eyes - Her blue eyes are a defining trait that is a part of her history should not be erased, it would be like changing her iconic hair color.

Yes to the kinky hair - She could still have occasions with the straight hair, but kinky hair looks better on her especially because it's white.

It's an interesting topic. As for me, I totally support a Storm with darker skin AND African features, as many artists have already depicted her.



I would easily accept 'kinky' hair, too, if this character would not have more than 40 years showing straight hair. I think it's too late now --unless there was a convincing argument such as secondary mutation or hormonal changes (it's quite usual that your hair has some changes due to age, radical cuts, etc...).

I would only put a red line regarding the color of her hair and eyes. I'm sorry, but as wrong as this could be, white and blue are IMO inherent to Ororo: I can't imagine her other way. She's mutant, after all.

I see the blue eyes and white hair as manifestations of her mutation - blue for the sky and white like clouds. Perfect for someone who manipulates the weather.

When she lost her powers they probably should have changed.

I'm voting SKIN + HAIR, with the clarification that there should be a good explanation for this new hair and, the most important thing, that Ororo should have African facial features, too, not Caucasian.

I think she should be colored with a dark skin(sometimes black characters look like they're just tanned) and more african features, but her eyes and hair should be the same, it's what makes her stand out.
