Hellfire is the best song in its movie. I’d argue the four songs they are actually using are considerably more memorable and probably better overall songs in Lion King.

    No big loss.

It is probably the weakest song in that movie.

I am reminded that Jafar's solo song "Humiliate the Boy" didn't make the final cut of Aladdin.

The biggest weakness of the song was that Jeremy Irons is not a professional singer. He sang-talked the song.

I enjoy musicals, including the Disney animated movies. But if the singing is weak, I can't enjoy it. I could only watch the first 15 minutes of the Beauty and the Beast live action remake before turning it off due to the weak voices.

By "live action", it seems they mean "CGI".

He still got a villain song though.

As for it being the weakest song, I'd say that was The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

Would it be any more odd than other instances of people singing in the movie?

But yea, I see what your saying about it sorta of defeating the point of making this live action when all the characters are CGI animals. But the early footage that was shown last year a D23 seemed to impress a lot of people even in it's rough state.
