indeed. you can't trust him but it's pretty cool that he helps out. not to mention, his dialogue is hilarious.

jiren's backstory was a bit cookie-cutter.

It's funny.

In the anime Jiren's pretty much Batman with Superman powers. But in the manga he seems to be more of a straight up stoic Superman.

I think the most surprising thing about Jiren's backstory (other than the "That's it? Nothing more to it?") was the fact that the super-evil villian that killed all of Jiren's friends, family, teammates, etc. was not an alternate universe version of Frieza.
