The lyrics of this do it for me. The video also adds to the appeal, but it was all car radio for me to get me into it.

This is Cher covering Kiss. They did an album called Music From The Elder that did underwhelming sales when it was released. This song is "World Without Heroes" and Lou Reed has song writing credits on it. Plus for like 5 minutes in the late 70's Cher dated Gene Simmons

I was trying to find a clip of "The Undead" performing this song from the movie, but this promotion for the movie was the closest I could find. Phantom of the Paradise was directed by famed suspense/thriller movie maker Brian DePalma. It's basically a rock version of "Phantom of The Opera" with "Faust" mixed in and of course a spoof of the music biz of the time. A running gag in the film is this one band has a completely different style each time they appear. They start as "The Juicy Fruits" a greaser doo-wop band, then become "The Beach Bums" a Beach Boys style group, then end up as "The Undead" a Alice Cooper/Kiss analogue.

I saw this movie in the theatre with my mom when it came out. The irony is that it's set in the 50's, but the theme song is a 70's disco pop song despite being sung by Frankie Valli.

The movie was pretty good, but the lyrics for the Valli song are pretty bad, IMO.

The song was written by Barry Gibb and it made sense on paper seeing as the Bee Gees had massive success from Saturday Night Fever and the theme did do pretty well on the pop charts. Having said that, the Sgt Pepper movie came out around the same time and made sense on paper but was a flop as a movie. The soundtrack did pretty well though.

I saw it on broadcast TV years ago as a kid, but really should watch it again. One thing that's interesting is that in the movie Sgt Pepper is supposedly from a small town in America, but all the music is by a band in real life from the UK as are the band portraying the Billy Shears and the new Peppers band ( Bee Gees and Peter Frampton).

I really like this song, but it's really interesting to compare how they changed their style from the late 60's/early 70's as a jazz influenced rock band to to where they were in the early 80's as a mellow soft rock act.

Also see Fleetwood Mac, Kool and the Gang, etc
