One of my favourite things to do is go up to my local goodwill and try to find hidden gems.

I thought it would be cool to have a place where we could show off the good deals we find, so good luck and post post away!

I love to do the same. If I pass a garage sale or a used book store I'll usually stop by just to see if they have any comics for sale. The only thing of note was a pretty good copy of X-Men: Supernovas OHC for ten bucks.

I stopped at a garage sale the other month and bought a savage sword near complete run of issue 75 to 235 . With many doubles about 350 comics all together and paid 75 bucks . Kept what I needed gave a few away and sold a run from 125 to 235 for what I paid for them . That's about the only time I have come across a super deal .

World's Finest Comics # 276 (February, 1982). Not a high-grade copy, but perfectly fine as a "reader."

I'm currently trying to collect all the "Dollar Comics" issues of WFC. Only eight to go.

10 years ago, Superman #75, mint condition (I felt so much like the Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons typing that last bit). What makes it more impressive was that it was the exact issue I was looking for (I didn't actually know there were specialised comic book stores back then, the owner of the shop told me about it when I bought the issue [along with The Death and Return of Superman novel by Roger Stern]).

I bought a copy of Amazing Spider-Man #150 at a church flea market for $.50 about a decade ago. A little old lady had a stack of books on her table with a sign on top that read "$.50 each". I offered her $5 for it (it was booking at the time for at least $20), but she said they were her late husband's books that he loved and he would have wanted it to go to someone who appreciated it, which I obviously would because I offered her more for it. I didn't argue with her long, gave her two quarters, and walked out of that basement a very happy man.

Me too. I started with "Adventure Comics," which didn't take too long (only 9 issues in that format). Now I'm working on "World's Finest." Haven't decided whether or not to move on to "Batman Family" and "Superman Family."

I picked up Omnibus: Evolutionary War from Value Village (I think elsewhere it's also called Savers?) for cheap. I think it was $15 or so, but my wife works there, so I got Family Discount (50% off!)

My regret is that they also had several volumes of Walt Simonson's Thor, and I didn't also pick those up.

Great thread. I think for a lot of us, this is the hope/dream whenever we walk into some random non-comic bookstore, that they'll have some long OOP omnibus or something, which they don't know the value of. I think those days are dwindling, as with the internet, everyone can see the approximate value of something, via Amazon, Ebay, etc...

While it's possible you could walk into a used bookstore and find the X-Men SA omnibus vol. 1 for $20, it's highly unlikely. But it's still exciting to think about the possibilities. ;-)
Even in LCS' I find myself scurrying about, hoping upon hope they have some OOP book clearanced or listed at cover, and for me at least, that never happens.

Today I found a used copy of the elusive and expensive Absolute Promethea Book One and other than two blemishes on the slipcase (a one inch bubble and a 3 inch ripple), it's in perfect shape. I hadn't been to this tiny LCS before and was blown away when I realized that it had a $50 off sticker on the bottom! I walked out the new owner for just $52.50. I didn't think I'd own this volume until it was reprinted and goes down as the best deal ever, beating out an Amazing Spider-Man Volume 2 Omnibus signed by Stan Lee that I got for $90! Got to get volumes two and three now.

The other day, at my local Half Price Books, I managed to pick up the first seven volumes of Eric Powell's The Goon. That might have been the highlight of that weekend.

Half Price Books own. 2/3rds of my collection came from there. We've got 3 here in Indianapolis and 1 will have more recent and another will have a lot of 616 and silver and another has a mix of the two. 2 months ago I got a VN Secret War #8 for 20 bucks.
