I agree with this. I don't think a lot of creators appreciate just how important Lois is to the Superman mythos. She not just a supporting character; she's THE supporting character, even more then Robin. He definitely said it but again...you get that even if that was the case that’s not an excuse, right? Bc it’s still sexism.
For starters, Lois Lane has been in love with Clark Kent for like 30 years now. To not recognize and understand that she loves Clark is to be deliberately obtuse at this point. If you don’t know she loves Clark you don’t know enough to be on a book. But even back in the day, it was still a sexist accusation to level at her. Lois has always loved the real person. She loved Superman when Clark Kent was not being true to himself. It was NEVER fair that men punished Lois for loving the real person that SUPERMAN was around her rather than the coward that Clark pretended to be. It was sexist. We know that now in 2018. Lois should never have been expected to want someone who wasn’t being “real.” She loved Superman bc he was loving towards her and appeared to be fighting the good fight. Clark, on the other hand, was literally pretending that he wasn’t willing to be as brave as Lois herself was. If Clark wanted to be loved as Clark then he needed to be true to himself and he wasn’t back then. Every time he dropped the “act” even in the older books...Lois wanted him. All he had to do was be himself. So I’m not going to excuse men who keep up this sexist lie that she “ignored Clark and wanted Superman” as if it was a character flaw on HER part. Because it wasn’t. There was no version of Superman where Clark gave his “best efforts” to win her and she chose Superman. Lying to a woman about who you really are is...not...your...best...effort. Period.
Mind you, this is way deeper than anything Frank has ever said. Miller’s politics are notoriously sketchy and offensive. It’s not remotely surprising that he would insist that Superman would be too godlike for humans bc his worldview is fairly terrible. He’s a notorious misogynist. His works are also often laced with racism and homophobia. Which is why he has no business on Superman.
Either way, this is a diversion from my larger point which is that “mature” with Superman nearly always means “dead wife” and I dare literally anyone to write a mature Superman book that actually uses her and doesn’t treat her like trash bc that would ::actually:: be fresh.
