Um, ok. Save by random giant octopus. Well thats a new one.
Your right, thats a squid not an octopus.
I feel like depending on a giant squid as an escape option was cutting it damn close Dick :P
DC's Newest Character Sensation: SQUIDWING !!!!!!!!
Squid was the best part, Humphries run started with promise but has fizzled. This is not a tug of war or cat and mouse game, the judge does what he wants to anyone with his undefined super power while Nightwing chases after him 2 steps behind all to get caught in some cliffhanger death trap he will escape from and the Judge will get away. There is now 1 issue left to wrap up this arc and all we know about the judge doesn’t tell us his powers or main goal
I had some hope with Seeley's first arc with Raptor and the one shot build up of the Dick/Shawn relationship, but its pretty clear Nightwing's ceiling is back where it used to be, which is "decent, readable".
Alright, this is starting to drag now. Its just the same thing being repeated. And super wordy. The arts so pretty but its all buried under word boxes.
Yeah, as inevitably happens when Nightwing gets tied to Bludhaven, things descend into a tepid area of the quality thermometer between "Meh" on the upper side and "Blech!" on the lower, occasionally popping up to the "cute/mildly interesting" or down to the "oh #@%!" levels.
It's issues like that which makes me realize that Nightwing must not be tied off. Not that it was bad, I kind of like it. But compared to Grayson or early Rebirth, it feels a lot less ambitious or well-defined. D.C. wanted to bring Dick back in the Blüd because he was there for a time before Flashpoint. But clearly, they don't know what to do with it. Hopefully, it'll convince them to return Dick to Grayson's vibes, at least.
Yeah, that's very true. Dick Grayson as "Nightwing" just comes with a very low ceiling or at the very least with a low ceiling that no writers wants to dare to break through because if you do "fan backlash" happens. The character just keeps falling to the same hole as always happens and nothing important ever comes of it either. This book and character need a serious shake up now.

To be fair one of the good things about this arc is how it’s used the new Bludhaven and the casinos.
That's true, the most recent creative teams have tried hard with the new Bludhaven, and it is definitely a more interesting place than the old. Nevertheless, for whatever reason (and I might just start a thread exploring this) Nightwing does not seem to flourish when tied to a specific location.
